Mounds Park Academy is a PreK–12 independent school in Saint Paul that serves approximately 500 students from throughout the Twin Cities area. For 37 years, Mounds Park Academy has engaged students in a rigorous college preparatory experience that is rooted in whole-child education. Students are challenged to apply their understanding to stir the human spirit, stand for justice, and be a positive change in the world. This is what we call rigor with purpose, and it grounds our students in the radical idea that their identity in the world is not measured by a test score but rather by the depth and decency of their impact on the world.

Mounds Park Academy seeks a full-time Upper School English teacher for the 2019–2020 school year. This position includes teaching multiple sections of English 10 (Western Literature), two Senior level English elective courses, and a growing responsibility with the all-school yearbook. English teachers at MPA are responsible for providing a classroom instructional program that supports the individual needs of all students in accordance with the school’s mission and values. We seek individuals with experience in teaching high school age students with one or more degrees in an English related subject.

It is expected that a successful candidate would:
 Teach at least three (3) Upper School English classes
 Incorporate and work through multi-source and multi-draft student work
 Emphasize critical thinking through content, research, and analysis
 Create and use diverse lesson plans and syllabi as per MPA English Curriculum Review
 Inspire students to enter into the creative process in classes
 Supervise, encourage, counsel, and evaluate students
 Foster and sustain an effective classroom environment
 Utilize and incorporate available academic technology for instruction
 Communicate and meet with students and parents during scheduled conferences and as necessary
 Participate in English Department and staff development activities
 Show a willingness to contribute to the life of the school outside of the classroom
 Perform additional duties as needed (serve on school-wide committees, advise a student club, etc.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
60%         Electronic Communications Maintain timely and relevant content on District, school and internal staff websites
Regularly look for ways to improve the website in areas such as navigation, interactivity, appearance, functionality and other factors to meet the changing needs of the school district
Support school sites and departments in maintaining their websites & ensuring content standards on school websites
Train internal audiences to maintain web pages and social media initiatives
Strategically manage the District social media accounts, using analytics to improve engagement and effectiveness; recommend new uses, channels or ways of sharing District stories on social media
Manage electronic communications systems, including e-newsletter, parent notification system and educational cable channel

25%         Content CreationProvide writing, photography and videography support
Assist Director of Communications with development of marketing materials, newsletters and internal communications
Edit and proof materials for clarity, consistency and accuracy

10%         Departmental SupportSupport emergency and crisis communications
Provide support in planning, implementing and evaluating special events

5%         Professional DevelopmentAttend meetings, in-services and workshops
Maintain active memberships in professional organization

Perform other duties as assigned or requested

This position works closely with the Elementary Assistant Superintendent and the Superintendent of Schools to oversee the operation of the school district to build vision, set priorities and develop long and short-range plans for the day-to-day operation of the district.  This is a new position available July 1, 2019.
