Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills that take into consideration the communication needs and cultural values of others.
  • Effective leadership skills which allow for substantial contributions at both the building and district level on projects, initiatives, and curriculum improvement.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
    Significant ability to collaborate with other professionals, including general and special educators.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all procedures and practices prescribed in the Teacher, Student, and/or Parent Handbooks.
  • Knowledge of School Board policies and adhere to federal and state laws that apply to his/her job assignment.

Responsibilities:

  • Screen, identify, assess, and diagnose disorders of communication, including articulation, voice, language, and fluency.  Use state eligibility criteria to make decisions regarding service eligibility.
  • Provide educationally relevant treatment and intervention, including consultation and follow-up to children, from birth-to-21 years of age, diagnosed with communication disorders.
  • Determine specific, reasonable, and appropriate goals and objectives and measure treatment outcomes through a program of periodic monitoring and data collection.  Includes writing standards-based IEPs with interventions supporting literacy and other standards.
  • Select, prescribe, and provide services supporting effective use of assistive technology devices and other forms of augmentative and alternative communication.
  • Serve as a case manager and advocate for the students served.
  • Document services for accountability and related billing requirements.
  • Care for district resources, equipment, and materials assigned to him/her and report concerns regarding facility and equipment to designated supervisor.
  • Contribute to the District’s inclusive workplace efforts by fostering a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment.
  • Provide direction and supervision for all school activities to which he/she is assigned.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor or district administrator

– Evaluate student performance according to system used by school and/or District; promote student achievement; maintain required student records; make related reports to the principal as prescribed or authorized by the superintendent.
– Maintain contact and communications with parents of students and work with them in the development of each student.
– Perform classroom management duties; enforce District rules governing the conduct of students; take appropriate disciplinary action with students who do not follow District rules.
– Enforce District guidelines in regard to health and hygienic conditions and practices in the classroom as they may affect the physical and mental health of students.
