individual to serve as Communications Specialist effective June 2018.
This position will provide leadership and direction for the district’s internal and external communications consistent with a plan that supports and aligns with the district’s strategic plan, enhances the school district’s image, engages the community in the schools and builds public support for the school district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a coordinated plan for school district internal/external communications
Plan, create and execute all internal and external communications including website, newsletters (print and electronic), marketing materials, crisis communications, social media, and special events
Coordinate and promote the school district’s public image including strategic marketing and promotion of school district events and staff achievements, referendum information and initiatives and other community partnerships
Advise and support the superintendent of schools, cabinet and other administrators, school board members, and staff members on strategic and effective communications and public relations
Monitor overall district communications for quality, consistency of message, and effectiveness
Serve as chief contact for information about the school district and respond to questions and requests for information
Manage proactive media relations by establishing positive working relationships with local and metro-wide newspapers and TV stations to ensure information is accurate and communicated timely
Determine key messages and strategically distribute information through effective news releases
Promote and support the district’s brand and ensure that communications, both internal and external are in alignment
Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive matters
Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent or their designee
