Red Lake Media Specialist
General Definition of Work Performs difficult skilled administrative support work developing and maintaining media reports and records, providing administrative support, training and guidance for teachers in the media center, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Principal. Essential Functions Designs lessons for students based on information in literacy and technology skills in the Minnesota Academic Standards. Instructs students in media and technology skills. Assists and instructs students and staff in reading guidance, materials selection and use of equipment. Evaluates, selects and orders materials and equipment for the media center. Assists in the maintenance of the online public access catalog for circulation and processing library materials. Collaborates with teachers to identify and design appropriate information resources and learning strategies for students. Conducts training sessions on new technologies. Assists in the administration of the media center budget. Assign duties to the media center support staff. Participates in the planning and development of changes in the building facilities and in the opening and closing of the media center. Attends various department and district meetings. Assists with the management of public relations and community functions of the media center. Inventory and monitor IPad, laptop carts. Maintain and schedule computer labs. Additional duties as assigned by the building principal. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of professional library principles, materials and practices, thorough knowledge of prescribed school system policies and procedures; general skill operating standard computer equipment, hardware and software; ability to evaluate library programs and services and to develop improved methods; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and vendors. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree with coursework in teaching, or related field and moderate experience teaching, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A current Minnesota School Library Media Specialist Certificate is required. Position Overview (Basic Purpose of Position): Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a program for all Minnesota families with children between the ages of birth to kindergarten entrance. The program is offered through Minnesota public school districts. ECFE is based on the idea that the family provides a child’s first and most significant learning environment and parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. ECFE works to strengthen families. ECFE’s goal is to enhance the ability of all parents and other family members to provide the best possible environment for their child’s learning and growth.
