IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Teaching and Learning provides leadership, coordination, and facilitation of programs and services, in the development and partnership with MDE for the implementation of K-12 Academic Standards and support to meet the needs of SCSC members. The Director of Teaching and Learning plans and coordinates with members of the SCSC Teaching and Learning team to provide region-level professional development opportunities to ensure the implementation and evaluation of instructional programs; provides partnership and leadership through coaching and mentorship; develops, directs, evaluates, and administers procedures, programs, budgets, staffing, communications, and professional development; and advises the Executive Director on matters regarding the teaching and learning needs of SCSC members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and implement a universal MN Academic Standards review process to ensure member districts meet the needs of students and comply with state and federal requirements and standards.

  • Provide leadership for unifying SCSC education programs under Teaching and Learning, including Special Education/Low-Incidence, Career and Technical Education, School Improvement Professional Development, and Student Academic Enrichment service.
  • Oversee, manage, and provides leadership for the standards review process in the State subject area implementation cycle.
  • Organize and facilitate the SCSC member curriculum leaders.
  • Works with SCSC programs to create interdisciplinary connections between academic standards.
  • Reviews SCSC region data to evaluate areas of support through SCSC.
  • Provides leadership and support for SCSC members in the development and implementation of aligned academic standards.
  • Reports to the Executive Director and SCSC Board on all relevant areas of oversight.
  • Assists in writing recommended policies and procedures that pertain to teaching and learning.
  • Research best practices in instructional leadership and disseminates information to SCSC members.
  • Develop and implement Professional Learning Communities across the Region to support the development and implementation of MN Academic Standards.
  • Support SCSC members as they align the work of student support divisions to the MN Academic Standards – Achievement and Integration, EL, Gifted and Talented, American Indian Education, ADSIS, etc.
  • Facilitate training of staff in evidence-based instructional strategies that meet the new MN Academic Standards.

Align, oversee, implement, and evaluate SCSC region-wide professional development.

  • Align professional development to COMPASS and the other MN Service Cooperatives.
  • Partner with SCSC Teaching and Learning team members to provide aligned region-level professional development opportunities.
  • Organize and manage region-wide professional development.
  • Provide coordination between SCSC members to align support and resources.
  • Develop/maintain a repository of best practices that can be utilized by all SCSC members.
  • Partner with SCSC member professional development leaders to provide universal and member-specific training and support.

Lead and manage long-range and day-to-day operations.

  • Develop long-range program goals consistent with the goals and objectives of the SCSC Board, MN Department of Education, COMPASS, and other MN Service Cooperatives.
  • Develop and maintain the teaching and learning budget.

Maintain and share a level of professional expertise.

  • Provide professional expertise and assistance to SCSC team members and SCSC Region members.
  • Coordinate support and program offerings with SCSC Teaching and Learning team members.
  • Partner with the other MN Service Cooperatives.
  • Partner with the MN Department of Education.
  • Attend training sessions, conferences, seminars, and regional meetings.
  • Keep current with trends, issues, and educational technologies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Online K-12 School Counselor (SY 2023-24)

Position Summary:
Owatonna Online has implemented a program designed to support students within the school with academic, social/emotional and personal supports.  The counselor provides ongoing guidance and daily tools for students to help within our systems of intervention and teach needed tools for success leading to college and career readiness.

Qualifications:
Valid Minnesota K-12 Guidance & Counseling or K-12 School Counselor licensure. Bachelor’s degree with coursework in School Guidance Counseling, or related field and moderate experience.  Master’s degree preferred.

Other Skills & Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, methods and techniques used for assessing sociological and academic needs of individual students; thorough knowledge of working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds; thorough knowledge and training and experience with the developmental levels of students, issues surrounding chemical dependency, abuse, family change, as well as working knowledge of federal and state special education laws and rules.  Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the areas of academic planning, personal goal setting, family systems/change, and crisis intervention. Thorough skills in the use of personal computers and related software packages, hardware and peripheral equipment.  Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to work with and through other school personnel, parents and community agencies; ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers and administrators.  Must understand and comply with all protocols related to data privacy.  Consistent and reliable attendance.

Online K-12 Special Education Teacher (SY 2023-24)

Ensure high levels of student learning through engaging, high quality virtual teaching. Educator is innovative and serves as a facilitator to students’ learning.  Educator will collaborate with colleagues, families, and all stakeholders to provide support virtually for students enrolled in the districts online school, Owatonna Online.  Educator is able to build strong partnerships with adults supporting student learning, and responsive to student needs academically, socially, and emotionally. Educator will be a learner, problem solver, and engage in on-site professional development.

Qualifications:
Valid MN K-12 Special Education Teaching license is required.  ABS license preferred.

An Ideal candidate will have a solid background in equity, technology, and ensuring all students learn at high levels. Bi-lingual skills in Spanish or Somali desired. Consistent and reliable attendance is required.

Online Electives Teacher (SY 2023-24)
