ALC High School Guidance Counselor (School year 2020-2021)

Provide guidance and counseling assistance to students in grades 9-12. Knowledge, skill, and understanding in best practices as it relates to career and college readiness and personal/social counseling required. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to understand and use academic data to drive decisions for school and students. Highly motivated individual who can work well with others and has excellent organizational skills. Detail orientated tracking of student credit acquisition towards graduation standards.  Coordinates with community business partners with the intent of helping students secure career options.  Coordinates with post-secondary institutions in order to support the Early Middle College program.  Tracks and coordinates 504 plans.

Junior and Senior High School Principal

Essential Duties:

1. Provides for the selection, supervision, and evaluation of all staff members, as well as various staff procedures.

  • Supervise and evaluate certified secondary staff, ensuring the proper elements of instruction are implemented; coordinates the teacher supervision and evaluation process with the assistant principal.
  • Evaluate assistant principal, dean of students, and activity coordinator.
  • Supervise clerical, paraprofessional and custodial staff (in collaboration with the Director of Buildings and Grounds) in the performance of their duties.
  • Manages staff and program improvement processes, as well as teacher professional development plans.
  • Evaluates all staff assigned to the building.
  • Screens, interviews, and recommends the selection of staff; including teachers and paraprofessionals; assigns the teaching staff.

2. Manages the daily operations of the building.

  • Interprets policies related to faculty, staff and students.
  • Responds to and resolves complaints and grievances of students, staff and parents.
  • Coordinates with the assistant principal and dean of students regarding the discipline of students.
  • Develops building objectives and procedures to facilitate the delivery of programs, student discipline, scheduling and record keeping.
  • Coordinates various District programs with the regular education program.
  • Supervises athletic events, evening school functions, and attends school-related community events.
  • Manages field trips, out-of-state trips, and related transportation requests.
  • Manages school safety and security processes including crisis management procedures.

3. Plans, conducts and attends meetings, events, and provides for public relations.

  • Plans, conducts and attends meetings with teachers, other District staff and the community.
  • Takes steps to ensure excellent public relations.
  • Communicates in a positive and effective manner with staff, community members, visitors, and/or vendors.

4. Responds to written requests for information from students, staff, parents, business, as well as from other school districts; provides for student reports.

  • Supervises the completion of, or actually completes, reports required by the State of Minnesota.
  • Manages all student grade reporting processes, honor roll and student records.

5. Develops and implements a plan for the continuous evaluation of the curriculum and programs.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning and other District administrators in assessing and recommending District programs and policies.
  • Coordinates the total curriculum with all departments.
  • Leads high standard implementation process, including curriculum development, standards assessment, record keeping, and reporting.
  • Manages, analyzes and interprets data, including assessment results, for school improvement purposes.

6. Develops the master schedule based upon student registration.

  • Organizes, develops, revises and distributes all schedules in collaboration with the assistant principal and the counseling department.

7. Plans and recommends budget, subject to administrative approval.

8. Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.

9. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in school and community.

10. Ensure attendance (at least 95%), punctuality, and dress are appropriate.
