1.0 FTE EL TEACHER – Middle School

1.0 FTE EL Teacher – We are looking for someone to work as part of our EL Middle School team to provide differentiated support for our diverse group of English Learners and perform the possible duties outlined below.  This position commences on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Qualifications:  Ability to work with a team.  Ability to design individual programming and accommodations for students with disabilities.  Excellent communication and organizational skills. All candidates will be considered.

Job Duties:

Manage the 8th grade dual identified EL/SPED caseload.
Teach two 8th grade EL classes (levels 2.5-3.5).
Co-teaching in 8th grade math classes
Bilingualism preferred but not necessary.
Work with the department chair to plan and implement new learning and strategies.
Build positive relationships with students and families.
Collaborate with content area teachers positively and effectively.
Work with literacy coaches to educate content area teachers on best-practices for ELs in the mainstream.

Part-time Work Based Learning Coordinator

Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) is seeking a talented part-time Work Based Learning Coordinator in Winona, MN.

Position:
This position coordinates work-based educational opportunities for special education high school students within our River Valley Academy, HVED’s Area Learning Center (ALC). The Work Based Learning Coordinator partners with community businesses to give special education high school students an opportunity find career paths in the job market and/or college.

Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a Special Education Teacher required
  • Licensure in Work Based Learning required
  • Experience working with transition age student preferred
  • Experience arranging community vocational opportunities preferred
  • Must be able to work in team decision-making situations
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communcation and consulting skills
  • Ability to use technology as a management and instruction tool
  • Valid driver’s license

Competencies:

  • Must be able to work in team decision-making situations
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as consulting skills
  • Ability to coach students in a work-based learning environment
  • Ability to develop relationships with community partnerships

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Instructs students and develops work experiences for students with disabilities
  • Present competencies as directed by Minnesota Department of Education
  • Maintains existing vocational opportunities while developing new community partnerships
  • Promotes student learning in self-awareness/advocacy, disability awareness, and transition services
  • Act as an essential team member of the transitions program by participating in team meetings, IEP meetings and overall positive team culture
  • Work with other staff members in implementing accommodations and modifications
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepare reports on students as required by law, policies, and administrative regulations
  • All other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment such as computer/laptop, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel:
Minimal travel required.
