General Definition of Work:
The Dean of Students will support the operations of the school overseeing the student management, behavior and attendance. Incumbent will be responsible for student management as outlined by the building principal. This position will observe and interact with individuals, groups and communities to assist with the healthy functioning of the students at the school. This key team member will collaborate with the principals and other support personnel in order to build positive relationships with stakeholders, collaborate and communicate effectively through a variety of methods, provide leadership of behavior management and supervision; facilitate the resolution of conflict; plan, organize and manage time and resources, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Principal. This position will begin immediately upon hire.
Essential Functions:
Assist the building Principal in establishing, implementing and evaluating effective interventions for increasing student success and achievement to build a positive environment for achieving educational outcomes.
Assists the building Principal as an instructional leader in overseeing programs; collaborate with the team, collaborate with the counseling departments, oversee student behavior and student management as directed by building principal, oversee student conduct and attendance, assist in leading curriculum and planning within building.
Monitor and communicate student progress with students, families, administrators and staff.
Support growth of students while working towards positive citizenship, improving their academic and behavior skills and abilities.
Analyze academic and behavior data collected from various records to help determine effective academic and behavioral interventions.
Serve as a member of various building teams and act as a liaison; assists staff, students and families in understanding building and district policies, procedures and requirements.
Create an environment where children from diverse backgrounds are comfortable and experience success.
Stay current with best practices research and strategies.

Behavior Specialist- SPECTRUM

Position Overview:
HVED is seeking a professional, self-motivated Behavior Specialist to join the Mental Health Practitioner/Behavior Specialist team. This person will be trained and competent in designing and implementing positive behavioral interventions and support to member district teachers and/or HVED’s Level IV Behavior and Autism program(s). This position will serve the SPECTRUM program. District and program assignments are based on a combination of geographic location, student caseloads and district needs, as well as team and employee preferences.
Qualifications:
The Education District requires an applicant to have one or more of the following licensure: Licensed Special Education Teacher, preferably in Emotional or Behavior Disorders (EBD). Other Special Education licensure are considered.
Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Counselor, or Board Certification Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
Other degrees and licensure may be considered if the individual is skilled in behavioral analysis, functional assessment and crisis intervention.
Experience in child behavior and intervention experience strongly preferred.
Must have a valid driver’s license to travel between HVED programs and member school district(s).
Competencies:

Must possess ability to problem-solve
Must possess ability to coordinate with others and lead teams when necessary
Knowledgeable in interpreting and supporting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs)
Familiar with PBSP (Positive Behavior Support Plan) and BIPs (Behavior Intervention plans)
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Provide classroom and behavioral supports for students through analyzing data to identify inappropriate behaviors, planning, implementing and tracking individual behavioral plans.
Identify barriers to successful transition and facilitate transition plans.
Assist IEP teams in problem-solving and creating plans to manage behaviors that affect a student’s learning.
Become a certified CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Trainer and facilitate CPI initial and refresher courses for HVED employees and member district employees.
Provide a comprehensive approach to behavior management that includes evaluation, data collection, interventions and regular monitoring to produce socially significant improvement in children’s behavior.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to): Develops, implements, and coordinates Hiawatha Valley Education District’s occupational therapy program within the member school districts, including philosophy, vision, procedures and goals.
Screens, evaluates and monitors students with disabilities or physical mental impairments for the purpose of providing educational programs, therapeutic intervention, and transition and exit planning and enhancing their ability to perform activities of daily living or participate in desired occupations.
Collaborates with staff to ensure team understanding of student occupational performance strengths and needs, as well as student outcomes.
Evaluates the student’s ability and formulates the student’s occupational profile, providing written reports that reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment and guides evidence-based intervention.
Participates in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment.
Assesses the need for assistive technology and equipment and makes recommendations for its use at school to help students function as independently as possible.
Documents occupational therapy services, and maintains records in accordance with school district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
