General Definition of Work: The Elementary STEAM/AVID Instructional Coach will work in and develop a collaborative setting for students and staff working on hands-on, project based learning. This position will be responsible for makerspace areas to support project-based learning while proactively building relationships with staff to support meeting the goals of students. The coach will encourage students and teachers thinking by leading inquiry based sessions. This position is full-time (1.0 FTE) commencing with the 2022/23 school year.
Essential Functions:Develop lesson plans based on the Minnesota State Standards for science, math, technology, arts and engineering (STEAM), collaborate and coach instructional staff to encourage incorporation of STEAM/AVID into classroom instruction.
Deliver STEAM and AVID-oriented instruction and training session through project-based learning methods.
Attend professional development and training related to STEAM/AVID programs and methodologies, staying aware of current research.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.
Work directly with school administrators and staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of STEAM/AVID initiatives and curriculum.
Organize, develop, and coordinate special STEAM/AVID events/activities.
Coach teachers on STEAM and AVID initiatives and instructional best practices so that these concepts can carry over into each classroom.
Create and maintain a makerspace and flexible learning environment to support innovative thinkers for students and staff.
Create problem solving strategies for students and colleagues to keep motivated and engaged in hands-on, project based learning.
Maintain an inventory of literacy options and systems for checking out books and other materials.
Develop programs that encourage recreational reading and positive digital citizenship.
Create a learning environment that is safe, respectful, engaging and that honors and affirms the race, culture, gender and abilities of all students.
Display a willingness to accept and give feedback with administration, staff and others working to ensure use of evidence based practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
