ESY-Special Education Paraprofessional for SAIL Program (Kellogg, MN)

Location: Kellogg, MN

POSITION:
Hiawatha Valley Education District is seeking four (4) talented Special Education Paraprofessional for our ESY program at SAIL. This program with meet for a total of 16 days; June 13-16, June 20-23, July 11-14 and July 18-21. Each work day will be from 8:15 AM-2:45 PM.

EMPLOYMENT DATE: School Year 2022-2023

RATE OF PAY: $14.50 – $19.50 per hour. Benefits package available.

QUALIFICATIONS:Must meet highly qualified criteria: Associates Degree or higher degree, or meets Minnesota Certified ParaPro Assessment
Certified in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Intervention (training provided)
Experience working with students with behavioral needs
Experience and skills in instructional role, use of technology, and interpersonal communications
Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and/or parents verbally and in writing
Ability to work with a team and take direction from supervising teacher
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Experience with Microsoft Office

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):    Assisting teachers in their teaching duties and other general responsibilities such as organizing teaching manuals, providing instructional support, rendering reinforcement activities, etc.
Performing clerical tasks such as maintaining student attendance records, filing student information and progress reports, making copies, creating bulletin boards, etc.
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher (e.g. reinforcement of IEP goals and objectives, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and student participation
Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom
Collaborates with supervising teacher(s) or other staff as assigned for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues, and providing services in compliance with established guidelines
Monitors special education students (e.g. classroom, field trips, lunchroom, playground, during life enrichment activities, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment

High School Social Studies Teacher

School Counselor

Position Summary:
Hiawatha Valley Education District’s (HVED) School Social Worker will provide support services to current and prospective students.  Responsibilities may include responding to student behavioral crisis, providing services listed in a student’s IEP, monitoring student progress toward IEP goals, demonstrates specialized knowledge of nontraditional/alternative populations, participating in ongoing professional development as it relates to the scope of work of the social worker.

Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree
Current social work license with Minnesota Board of Social Work
Current license from Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB): K-12 School Social Work or School Counselor
Demonstration understanding of cultural competence

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Develops and implements behavioral and crisis interventions; administers and analyzes student needs assessments; conducts interviews with students, family, and school staff; conducts observations; creates related plans of action to meet the individual needs of students; collaborates with staff, families, outside agencies, and others in the management and support of interventions.
Plans and conducts individualized or small group sessions with students to develop, teach, and implement social/emotional support tools; discuss prevention, problem solving techniques, academics, peer relations, and issues creating barriers for their academic success; and reviews progress.
Evaluates and makes referrals to outside providers, community resources, social services, and other programs; and collaborates and communicates with school staff, students, families, and outside resources.
Collaborates with social services, teachers, staff, administration, and related service providers; and educates and trains staff on related topics including trauma informed strategies.
Prepares documentation, reports and/or other correspondence including assessments, evaluation reports, progress reports, and other related paperwork, and ensures compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant

Job Description

Position Summary:
Hiawatha Valley Education District’s (HVED) Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR) and performs occupational therapy procedures and related tasks for/on students as indicated through Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Qualifications:
Current Minnesota COTA license
Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Assistant Associate Degree program accredited by an agency recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Assists in the completion of assessment process of students using appropriate tests under the supervision of an OTR to determine students’ level of functioning and need for therapy services.
Assist OTR in the IEP process to develop goals and objectives and attend IEP and periodic review meetings.
Provide input describing students’ abilities/needs as determined or observed during treatment sessions.
Provide treatment for students qualifying for services using a variety of appropriate modalities under the direction of an OTR to improve/maintain students’ perceptual/fine motor and sensory motor performance.
Assist OTR in maintaining student files including recording, charting, or graphic data relative to students’ progress.
Attend meetings as required.
Assist OTR in maintaining safety and cleanliness of therapy space and equipment in order to provide an appropriate educational environment.
Learn and adhere to established policies and procedures of the School District and Special Education Department to ensure that School District standards are enforced.
Instruct classroom educational assistants of appropriate activities for the student(s).
Construct and adapt equipment used by therapists and students using a variety of tools and modalities to modify and make equipment to meet the needs of staff and students.
Communicate with outside service providers to coordinate services.

Licensed School Social Worker

  • Liaison with students, parents, school staff, and community agencies

  • Participates in Child Study Teams

  • Provides social work services to students and parents
  • Participates as a resource person for in-service training and planning

Qualifications:

  • Must hold appropriate Minnesota teaching license as a Licensed School Social Worker (licensed by the Board of Social Work and the Minnesota Board of Teaching)
  • Previous experience preferred
  • Possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
  • Candidates preferred to have one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited college / university and completed 2000 hours of supervised clinical experience delivering clinical services to treat mental illness or children with emotional disturbances
    • Enrolled in a Social Work Master’s program from an accredited college / university
    • Have an MSW from an accredited college/university
    • LICSW (Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker)
