Special Education Paraprofessional

POSITION:
Hiawatha Valley Education District is seeking a talented Special Education Paraprofessional for the ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) SPECTRUM Program, which is located in Caledonia, MN. This position is full-time during the 9-month School Year.
EMPLOYMENT DATE: School Year 2021-2022
RATE OF PAY: $14.25 – $19.25 per hour. Benefits package available.
QUALIFICATIONS:Must meet highly qualified criteria: Associates Degree or higher degree, or meets Minnesota Certified ParaPro Assessment
Certified in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Intervention (training provided)
Experience working with students with behavioral needs
Experience and skills in instructional role, use of technology, and interpersonal communications
Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and/or parents verbally and in writing
Ability to work with a team and take direction from supervising teacher
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Experience with Microsoft Office
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to): Assisting teachers in their teaching duties and other general responsibilities such as organizing teaching manuals, providing instructional support, rendering reinforcement activities, etc.
Performing clerical tasks such as maintaining student attendance records, filing student information and progress reports, making copies, creating bulletin boards, etc.
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher (e.g. reinforcement of IEP goals and objectives, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and student participation
Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom
Collaborates with supervising teacher(s) or other staff as assigned for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues, and providing services in compliance with established guidelines
Monitors special education students (e.g. classroom, field trips, lunchroom, playground, during life enrichment activities, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment

ESY-Teacher for Extended School Year-SAIL
Position Title: Special Education Teacher for Extended School Year (ESY)
Location: SAIL-Kellogg
Position Purpose
Hiawatha Valley Education District is seeking two talented, driven Special Education Teachers for our ESY program at SAIL. This program will meet for a total of 16 days; June 14-17, June 21-24, July 12-15 and July 19-22. Each work day will be from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Students will be present 8:45 AM-2:45 PM.
Essential Performance ResponsibilitiesFacilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum
Create a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment that is conducive to individualized and small group learning
Provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Document teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes
Understand and utilize Odysseyware and other online learning curriculum for students
Other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor

Special Education Teacher for Grades 9-12
Location: Winona, MN
Position:
HVED is seeking a part time (.4 FTE) Special Education Teacher for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year.This position will work side by side with the general education teacher at the HVED ALC located at Minnesota State College Southeast campus. Flexible hours between 8:15am and 2:45pm.
Qualifications: Minnesota licensure is required
Successful experience as a Special Education Teacher is required
Experience and knowledge of writing, monitoring, and implementing IEPs strongly preferred
Experience in developing and implementing a variety of behavior strategies and interventions for effective programming
Competencies:
Must possess the knowledge of MN standards and options for achieving those standards
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills to parents, students, staff, and administrators
Ability to work with a team of professionals to meet the needs of students
Ability to collaborate with and provide direction to paraprofessionals
Proficient in meeting deadlines and managing daily record keeping
Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
Accountable for facilitating learning, academic achievement and personal development by providing instruction to children and adolescents
Conduct assessments as part of the special education evaluation process
Provide case management for students and maintain student records of services provided
Participates in IEP and in-take meetings
Utilizes technology to facilitate learning
Understands and implements the varying learning styles and the needs of a diverse student population
Develop and implement positive behavior and social skills curriculum
Performs other related duties as assigned
