Summary: Responsible for executive leadership and management of the District by advising and supporting the Superintendent on day-to-day matters, communicating with internal and external stakeholders, troubleshooting issues, planning and leading projects, facilitating meetings and discussions; represents the Superintendent and the District to a wide variety of stakeholders; serves as Superintendent-designee in the absence of, or by delegation by the Superintendent; supervises the staff and activities of the Office of the Deputy Superintendent.
Timeline: This position will be posted until May 19, 2024. First-round interviews will be conducted May 28, 2024. Second round interviews will be conducted on May 30, 2024. Final interviews will be conducted on June 5, 2024.

Directs and facilitates the development and implementation of shared vision, goals, high performance standards and best practices with district leaders to support and strengthen the District.
Provides transformational leadership to assess, plan, develop, and successfully implement and manage systemic change across the District.
Establishes and reinforces a culture of high expectations, accountability and conditions that facilitate sustained improvement in district leadership, strategy, and external relations.
Aligns the work of the District’s leadership team to the Board and Superintendent’s goals to ensure maximization of resources, accomplishment of expected results and outcomes, and strong community partnerships
Serves as an advisor to the Superintendent on district-wide issues; compiles, evaluates, and analyzes information; recommends and implements solutions; assures district-wide solutions and procedures are in compliance with all laws, policies, regulations and standards.
Establishes effective working relationships with the Board and keeps them current on district programs; provides periodic updates as required.
Engages in daily communications with the Superintendent and senior leadership on issues facing the District and advises the Superintendent on such issues.
Collaborates with parents, community organizations, elected officials, school and departmental leadership, District staff, and other public agencies; manages stakeholder relationships in the community.
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Office of the Deputy Superintendent; directs programs and operations, monitoring the results to assure the Department achieves tactical goals and plans.
Provides leadership and direction to the Office of the Deputy Superintendent staff; identifies opportunities to institutionalize prudent financial management practices; manages assigned staff, and assigns tasks, programmatic responsibilities, and projects; evaluates performance, resolves workload and technical issues, and assures that goals are defined and achieved.
Contributes to the overall quality of the department’s service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment
Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
Master’s Degree in Education or a closely related field; AND
Ten (10) years of professional experience in progressively responsible academic administration, three (3) years of which were in an executive/managerial role; OR
Equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
Knowledge of:
Principles, practices and procedures of public administration in an educational setting.
Adinistrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development, implementation and evaluation, and the management of employees through multiple levels of management.
Techniques and methods for long-range strategic planning and management of organizational change.
Functions, authority, responsibilities and limitations of an elected Board.
Principles and practices of developing teams, motivating employees and managing in a team environment.
Principles and practices of budget development and administration.
Minnesota and Federal rules and regulations governing public education.
Social, political, economic, environmental and related issues influencing District functions and activities.
Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone, occasionally when relations may be confrontational or strained.

License and Certification Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Superintendent license.
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License is required.
