School Psychologist

Hiawatha Valley Education District is seeking a self-motivated part-time School Psychologist to work for Minnesota Virtual Academy (MNVA). This position is serving up to a .5 FTE. This position may work from home while conducting testing (primarily cognitive, academic, and autism) and evaluations primarily at metro area school districts.

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

Conducts psychological assessments; evaluates students for special education/section 504 needs, educational skills, social skills and emotional status
Designs and facilitates programs for children at-risk for failure within the typical learning environment
Facilitates communication between teachers, administrators, parents and students to find solutions to academic, behavioral, and mental health problems; assists others to understand child issues.
Evaluates the effectiveness of academic and behavioral management programs being used; disseminates research for use in evaluations and programs
Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments and create Behavior Intervention Plans
Provide leadership to staff and administration in the areas of Multi-Tier Systems of support (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RtI), and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Facilitate data-team (screening/progress monitoring) and child-study team (individual problem-solving) meetings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of child psychology principles, assessments, methods, behavior modification, etc., and current developments in child psychology.
Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Must demonstrate the ability to coordinate special education/section 504 services and comply with special education/section 504 rules and due process requirements
Must demonstrate knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) (RtI/PBIS) and various evidence-based practices

Special Education Paraprofessional for the Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES) Lab

A PAES Lab allows students exposure to hands-on tasks from key areas in real world employment, such as Business/Marketing, Consumer/Service, Construction/Industrial, Processing/Production, and Computer/Technology. Students learn many on the job skills and increase their understanding of the real world workplace while remaining in the classroom.

A PAES Lab Special Education Paraprofessional acts as the supervisor for students to experience the real world employment in the classroom. This position motivates students to achieve tasks in each employment industry by building their skills and interest level.

Elementary Teacher – First Grade

The ideal candidate will be joining a team of special education teachers, an on-site school social worker, and a special education administrative assistant to facilitate all due process paperwork.

 

The Special Education teacher needed for this position will be licensed in at least two areas (ASD and/or EDB and another area of licensure) or as an Academic Behavior Specialist and will provide specialized instruction for students with mild to moderate disabilities (LD, OHD, ASD, or EBD) with needs in a combination of the following areas:

·       behavior regulation

·       reading, writing, and/or math skills

·       social skills

·       organizational skills

·       use of assistive software and technology

 

The applicant should have knowledge and experience in the following areas:

·      IEP writing and conducting evaluations

·      creating schedules and managing paraprofessionals

·      developing strong instructional plans that meet the needs of       a range of students

·      teaching reading, writing and math at minimum

·      teaching behavior regulation and social skills

Visual Arts Teacher, grades 6-12, part-time (.5)

·      Develop and implement creative and innovative lessons in the arts

·      Additional duties as assigned by administrator

·      Work collaboratively with staff using project-based model

·      Work collaboratively with Northfield Public schools, Northfield Arts Guild, Carleton College and St. Olaf College for gallery shows and college interns

·      Other duties as required
