Community School Coordinators

General Definition of Work:
The Community School Coordinators will specialize in working directly with Community Schools to enhance youth and family academic and enrichment programs. The Community School Coordinators will represent FPS in a positive manner and support the design of cross-functional strategies in the areas of Student-Centered Learning and Family Engagement. Work is performed under the supervision of the Youth Programs Coordinator.

Job Description:

Plans, schedules, implements, and evaluates aspects of the Community School.
Ensures use of best practices in Community School for children, youth, and adults.
Collaborates with a variety of community organizations to deliver programming.
Evaluates program effectiveness and participant satisfaction. Provides program and participant data to project stakeholders.
Assists and makes recommendations concerning fiscal needs and requirements for Community School programming, activities, and initiatives.
Develops out-of-school time and evening programming, including non-school day programming.
Coordinates Family Connection Center/Family Resource Center in building.
Support the establishment and/or continuation of youth and family access to school supplies, personal hygiene products, seasonal clothing, and/or other needs within the school.
Markets and promotes Community School activities and opportunities with all students.
Attends and actively participates in Community School teams and meetings.
Communicates, collaborates, and problem-solves with administrators, district personnel, parents, community members, and the Community School teams regarding student, staff and/or program issues.
Tracks required data for Community School funders and partners.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Oversees Community School instructional leads, program staff, community organization staff, and volunteers:

Recruits, trains, monitors, and evaluates program staff.
Coordinates professional development and workshops for staff.
Maintains and updates staff and volunteer manual.
Collaborates with community groups, associations, organizations and volunteers regarding programming, programming needs, operations or other relevant issues.
Assists with Targeted Services programming.
Works with the Human Resources Department for the hiring process.

Fulltime Middle School/High School Float Teacher

Essential Functions: A full-time (1.0 FTE) Third Grade Teacher at Lincoln Elementary School. Performs professional work providing a broad range of teaching services within our elementary school, assisting students to develop skills, attitudes and learning methods at various levels to a targeted audience. This position commences with the 2023-24 School Year on August 21, 2023.

Faribault Public Schools is a rural Pre-K through Adult School District located about 50 miles south of the Twin-Cities. The school district currently serves approximately 3,700 students in Faribault and our surrounding areas within our community of 23,000 citizens within the city limits. District sites include one early childhood center, three elementary schools K-5, one middle school 6-8, one high school 9-12, one area learning center 9-12 and one education center for adult education.

Safety Specialist

Hiawatha Valley Education District is looking for a Safety Specialist for the SAIL Program in Kellogg, MN.  The Safety Specialist will oversee and monitor the safety and well-being of property, students, faculty and staff in the school building. This person will enforce individual school rules, policies, regulations and procedures and assist in the maintenance of an orderly, safe environment through timely access and availability.

FLSA Status:  Non-exempt
Reports to:  Director of Special Education

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in child behavior and intervention preferred
  • Experience with a variety of behavior protocols to address students exhibiting challenging behaviors preferred
  • Possess Safety Care Advanced certification within two weeks of the date of hire is required (training provided)
  • Capable of operating office equipment and communication devices needed to orderly conduct responsibilities of the position
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Duties and Responsibilities Include (but not limited to)

  • Promote a safe and orderly entrance of all students and staff into the building and ensures that all students, staff, and other have left the premises in the afternoon or evening.
  • Patrol school grounds, ensuring safety, looking for damaged property, and unsecured entryways and completing daily safety inspections of the building and grounds to ensure the safety of the building.
  • Provide support to any area of the building when requested.  Including, but not limited to, responding to a crisis situation or escorting a student in a hallway.
  • Ensure safety protocols in place to ensure staff and students are safe from harm.  Develop best practices and conduct drills to help prepare staff and students
  • Proactively engage with students during break times and lunches to assist with behavior regulation and implementation of coping strategies
  • Meets and interacts with students and staff on a regular basis to better understand the school culture and the safety needs of students and staff
  • Proactively interact with students directly as a mentor or other resource to effect positive behavior change
  • Follow and adhere to students’ Positive Behavior Support Plans and Individualized Education Program (IEP) as directed by the case manager and/or Behavior Specialist
  • Maintains logs and reports of critical incidents in compliance with district, local, state and federal policies.
  • Attends training classes and other professional learning opportunities related to safety, emergency preparedness and cultural proficiency.
  • Maintain the requirements for student transportation in HVED vehicles.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements

This position works out of the SAIL Program in Kellogg, MN.  Minimal travel required.
