Physical Education Teacher

Physical Education Teacher
Worthington School District 518 is seeking an Elementary Physical Education teacher starting in August of the 2022-23 school year. Job may be at Prairie Elementary (K-2) or Intermediate School (3-5). Job Summary: To develop students’ physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination and teamwork, and to develop students’ understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being, and to motivate students to work towards physical fitness, hygiene and good health. School Instructional Specialist

This position will provide support, assistance, and leadership in the areas of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and within the school improvement and data  and assessment process.
Responsibilities also include: intervention oversight, site assessment coordinator (SAC), and data and assessment analysis as it relates to the school and individual student achievement.  This position focuses on the improvement of instruction; serving as a member of the school’s leadership team and ensuring curriculum and instruction practices along with professional learning occur.  The School Instructional Specialist (SIS) reports to the principal. This is a teacher on special assignment position that will serve the Intermediate and Middle Schools.

This is a 12-month position that is estimated to begin on June 1, 2022.  The position will be located at a new Intermediate school that will open in August 2022.

Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the principal, provides clerical, secretarial and administrative assistance to school administrators, conveying information regarding school functions and procedures; and supporting the broad array of services provided to students, parents, instructional and support employees; and to coordinate work of other school clerical employees.

Essential FunctionsComposes documents (e.g., notices, correspondence, bulletins, reports, newsletter, handbooks) for principal, or other school administrators for the purpose of requesting or providing information about school and work-related matters, activities, events, etc.
Maintains the daily/weekly/monthly calendar of the administrator for the purpose of coordinating the scheduling of work-related appointments, activities, meetings, etc.
Assists in planning and scheduling school events and activities, and maintaining calendar of school and students events for the purpose of coordinating and scheduling events such as orientation, open house, field trips, sporting events, assemblies, conferences, etc.
Maintains documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
Prepare purchase orders for the purpose of submitting to the school district’s accounting/finance office.
Maintains inventories of supplies and materials for the purpose of ensuring items’ availability.
Assists visitors to the office, including students, parents, substitutes teachers, and others.
Answers telephone calls, and provide information and assistance to callers.
Distributes incoming mail appropriately; sends outgoing mail.
Schedules appointments with students, parents and teaching staff or others as requested.
Evaluates situations for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Responds to inquiries from students, parents and employees, providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction.
Serves as liaison with outside organizations (e.g., transportation, food service, suppliers) for the purpose of coordinating the scheduling of deliveries, activities, etc.
Supports, guides, leads, trains and coordinates work of school clerical employees for the purpose of providing assistance with administrative functions.
Additional Duties
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.

Qualification ProfileAny combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Graduation from high school.
Associates degree with course work in business, math, word processing, office procedures and record keeping preferred.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Fluent in typing word processing, and ability to navigate and manage district software programs.

English Language Learners Teacher

This position will teach English learner students at a new Intermediate school that is opening in August 2022.  Assignment will be in grades 3, 4, or 5.

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, and foster communication skills to be successful in the content areas.

Essential Functions
Develops and administers English learner curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
Maintains familiarity with district standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school’s standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License:

Minnesota State Certification as an English Language Learner teacher as required for position.
Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education:Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Masters Degree preferred.
Experience:
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Ag/FFA/CTE Teacher
