Instructional Coach Job Description
Position Summary
Instructional coaches support growth and development of teachers in ISD 518 in the areas of implementing effective instructional strategies, classroom management, analyzing student work, differentiated instruction, class culture and climate, supporting ELL and students with special needs, etc. Instructional coaches use multiple data collection tools and protocols that guide teachers in reflecting on practice and monitoring progress towards professional goals for instructional improvement. Preference will be given to applicants with an elementary background.
Instructional coaches work closely with classroom teachers, site leaders, other coaches, and administrators to accelerate instructional effectiveness of teachers for a positive impact on student learning.
This is a teacher on special assignment (TOSA) position with ISD 518.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in the field of education (advanced coursework preferred)
Minimum of four years of recent classroom teaching experience; tenured in this district (for internal candidates)
Minnesota teaching license
Experience in designing, presenting and facilitating adult learning preferred
Experience in successful teacher leadership preferred
Specific Training/SkillsDemonstrated expertise in designing and implementing standards-based instruction, assessment and methods that improve student achievement in the classroom
Ability to utilize innovative teaching methodologies
Ability to collaborate and maintain confidential relationships with administrators and teachers
Experience related to adult learning (coaching, professional development, mentoring, teaching)
Demonstrated the ability to develop goals, action plans, and professional development plans
Willingness to engage in formative assessment processes, including non-evaluative, reflective conversations with teachers using evidence of classroom practice and student learning
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Evidence of excellent oral, written and technology skills
Ability to organize and work independently in a fast paced environment
Duties and Responsibilities included, but are not limited to:
Interactions with Teachers:Build trusting relationships with teachers and maintain confidentiality
Utilize digital tools, protocols, and language to support coaching conversations that accelerate teacher practice and student learning
Plan and prepare lessons, analyze student work, and conduct classroom observations beside teachers to inform instruction and enhance student achievement
Model, as appropriate, innovative teaching methodologies through techniques such as co-teaching and demonstration lessons
Provide opportunities for teachers to observe exemplary practice by arranging peer visits
Provide professional development within the district
Encourage teachers to identify instructional resources and support throughout the entire school community
Incorporate technology and analysis of data to advance both teacher learning and classroom practice
Fully participate as a team member of the Department of Teaching and Learning and collaborate with team peers in the areas of induction, data and assessment, curriculum and instruction, English learners, professional development, and technology integration
Interactions with AdministratorsCollaborate with administrators to ensure foundations are in place for teacher growth
Professionalism in the WorkplaceCommit to meeting or exceeding all performance targets established by program director
Maintain and submit required documentation per the district practices (including but not limited to):Coaching protocols and data collection tools and interaction logs
Current and accurate coaching calendar reflecting scheduled meetings
Accurate time and attendance records
Demonstrate the highest standards of honesty, integrity, flexibility, responsiveness, curiosity, and the eagerness to learn
Establish a flexible work schedule that may extend beyond traditional school hours/days
Handle information in a confidential manner in accordance with established policies and legal requirements
Complete other job duties as assigned

Physical Requirements Ability to travel between the schools/sites served
Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, sitting, standing, vision and walking, and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that can’t always be anticipated
