Essential Functions:

Deliver Special Education instruction; implement lesson plans on instructional units; develop and determine methods, approaches and instructional units; maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.

Assess and evaluate student performance; determine the need for re-instruction or need for new approach; reinforce information previously taught in the classroom; determine grades for reporting purposes; monitor student performance and behaviors and determine how to approach bad behaviors.

Develop and plan instructional activities; develop and implement lesson plans personalized for individual student needs; assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs); implement student assessments and evaluate results; determine assessment process for instructional units; research topics and materials designed to improve instructional presentations.

Position Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students’ specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

Essential Functions:

Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.
Participates and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans (“IEP”) for students.
Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students’ IEP’s and behavior management plans.
Provides appropriate services for students who qualify for special education services.
Collaborates with special and general education staff members
Communicates effectively with staff, students, and parents
Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student’s abilities and needs, including students with special needs.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping.
Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

Additional Duties:

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Knowledge of and adherence to School Board policies and procedures.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile:
Certification/License:

Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Experience:
Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels preferred.

Site Administrator, Special Education Setting IV Program

Lakes Country Service Cooperative, a leader in providing regional support for school districts, cities, counties, and other government agencies seeks a full-time Special Education Site Administrator to supervise and support day-to-day operations in our Lakes Country Academy (LCA) setting IV program located in Alexandria, MN.  The Special Education Site Administrator will ensure compliance and mandates are being met while supervising all staff within the building. Experience in Special Education is required. The ideal candidate would have supervisory experience, special education coordinating experience, experience in teaching special education, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.  A Minnesota Special Education Director license and/or K-12 Principal license or enrollment in a SPED Director and/or K-12 Principal prep program is required. Coordinate daily schedules and provide guidance to staff on new student transitions
Provide leadership and supervision to licensed and unlicensed site staff
Maintain communication between LCA and member school districts
Document and report incidents to special education director
Leadership on behavior and curriculum strategies for staff
Serve as communication liaison between the director and staff
Oversee due process program-wide to assure all required paperwork meets compliance requirements
Work in a team atmosphere to foster growth and development of staff and students
All other day-to-day program management and operational duties
