School Counselor

JOB FUNCTION:
As a school counselor, his/her primary function shall be to assist students in reaching their potential and assist them in developing positive and realistic self-concepts.

REPORTS TO:
Building principal and director of Student Services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The school counselor shall:
1. Counseling. He/she shall:
a. Provide counseling which will assist each student toward increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.
b. Help determine the best educational placement of students.
c. Work with students individually or in groups toward solution of personal concerns.

2. Student appraisal. He/she shall:
a. Help students evaluate their aptitudes and abilities by interpreting standardized test results and other pertinent data.
b. Help students in the evolution of their educational, occupational and lifetime goals.
c. In cooperation with building principals, interpret results of the district’s testing program to staff, administrators or the community.
d. Supervise or assist in the maintenance of accurate cumulative records.
e. Help students make realistic assessments of the requirements of post-secondary educational institutions in which they express interest.

3. Information services. He/she shall:
a. Orient new students on school procedures and opportunities and help in the proper transfer of records.
b. Provide information to students and parents/guardians about course offerings, financial assistance and other information about post-secondary education.
c. Plan visits to schools, colleges or industries for interested students.
d. Provide career guidance and information about job opportunities for students leaving formal education.
e. Help develop parental involvement in the school counseling program.
f. Orient students, staff, administrators and the community on the school counseling program.

4. Referral. He/she shall:
a. Refer students who need special services to the proper individual or agency.
b. Help teachers with any student who demonstrates a possible special need in the classroom.
c. Participate in the M-team process.

5. Consultation. He/she shall:
a. Confer with parents/guardians when necessary serving as a consultant concerning the personal, educational and social development of their child.
b. Work closely with the faculty on student needs and seek their assistance when needed.

6. Program development. He/she shall:
a. In cooperation with administrators, develop a written kindergarten through grade 12 school counseling program.
b. Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the established school counseling program.
c. Maintain current information regarding developments and procedures in the school counseling field.

7. Help the community gain a better understanding of school counseling services. He/she shall:
a. Release information to the news media that pertains to the school counseling program.
b. Schedule parent/teacher conferences when appropriate.
c. Participate in programs of civic organizations and other community groups when invited to do so.

Other Responsibilities:
The school counselor shall:
1. Function under the ethical code of the American Association for Counseling and Development (AACD).
2. Assume all other responsibilities and perform all other duties as assigned by the elementary, middle or high school principal or director of pupil services for the benefit of the district.

Teacher- Social Studies (Economics)

JOB FUNCTION:

SUPERVISES:
Students, student teachers or others as assigned.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The classroom teacher shall:
1. Make provisions in the classroom utilizing the philosophy that all children can learn as per mission statement.
2. Teach curriculum as per scope and sequence and/or department curriculum.
3. Modify curriculum as appropriate and as needed in the curriculum review cycle.
4. Provide an appropriate opportunity for students to master the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards.
5. Provide in a timely fashion the necessary documentation for completing the materials adoption process when appropriate.
6. Develop, implement and evaluate personal and professional instructional goals with the assistance of the building principal as part of ongoing staff development.
7. Identify and provide a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
8. Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation per building procedures.
9. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, consistent with the district’s philosophy, and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicate these objectives to students.
10. Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s educational philosophy and instructional goals and objectives.
11. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
12. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
13. Develop reasonable rules for classroom behavior and related procedures.
14. Maintain order in the classroom in a consistently fair and just manner.
15. Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media and assessment tools.
16. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provide timely feedback to students, and provide progress reports as required.
17. Assess student progress towards mastery of the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards as appropriate.
18. Identify any learning and behavioral difficulties of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists and the Individual Education Team meeting.
19. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
20. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, Board policy and administrative regulation.
21. Assist the administration in implementing Board policies and rules.
22. Encourage parent/guardian involvement by taking an active role and being available to students and parents/guardians for education-related purposes when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
23. Maintain effective lines of communication among staff, parents/guardians and supervisors to assist in the education of each child.
24. Serve as a role model by demonstrating a positive attitude, appropriate dress, timeliness, proper preparation and strong work habits.
25. Be responsible for students in his/her charge and for any and all students of the school during the school day and during school functions.
26. Work cooperatively with all staff, promote interdisciplinary collaboration and be supportive of other building/district programs.
27. Take responsibility for staying professionally current.
28. Attend all building faculty, department and Individual Education Plan (IEP) staffings and meetings as required or upon request.
29. Assume all other responsibilities and perform all other duties as assigned by the building principal or person designated by the district administrator.

Director of Fiscal and Building Operations

The School District of New Richmond is the largest employer in New Richmond, and consists of approximately 435 staff and 3,500 students. The District consists of three elementary schools: Starr, Hillside, and Paperjack; New Richmond Middle School; and New Richmond High School. The Director of Fiscal and Building Operations will oversee a budget of approximately $41.3 million.

Job Function: The director of fiscal and building operations shall administer and supervise the business office, building and grounds, food services and transportation departments and services. He/she shall manage district business affairs so that they contribute to providing an effective educational program.

Reports to: District Administrator

Supervises: All certified and non-certified employees assigned by the district administrator including the supervisor of buildings and grounds, the supervisor of school nutrition, business office personnel, and also oversees District transportation working with the terminal manager for Kobussen Buses.

Job Responsibilities:

A. Administration
The director of fiscal and building operations shall:
1. Develop for the district administrator’s approval, financial plans, fiscal projections and plans for securing and investing district funds.
2. With the assistance of supervisors and building principals, prepare an operational and long-range school budget.
3. Be responsible for the acquisition, storage and distribution of all supplies and equipment.
4. With the assistance of the supervisor of buildings and grounds, operate all district plants. He/she shall plan and direct a continuous program of year-round maintenance in order to ensure upkeep of facilities and to safeguard students and staff.
5. Assist in planning new school buildings and alterations and additions to existing buildings. He/she shall work with lay and professional personnel in planning school plant needs, in acquiring school sites and in managing school property.
6. Ensure that proper and adequate accounting and internal audit procedures are used; that all district funds are properly safeguarded; that all school property is properly recorded; that all records are subject to an independent audit at the close of each fiscal year; and that accurate financial reports are available to the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), administrators, the Board and the public.
7. With the assistance of the supervisor of school nutrition, direct the operation of school food services. He/she shall provide economical and satisfactory facilities and efficient management in the operation of the school lunch program while working in close cooperation with the building administrators.
8. Serve on negotiation committees as assigned and provide relevant financial support data for all employee groups.

B. Supervision
The director of fiscal and building operations shall:
1. Supervise student transportation services, while working with the local carrier and building principals, and provide for the scheduling of the school vehicle fleet and vehicles with the director of pupil services and ensure safe, economical and comfortable transportation for all passengers.
2. While working with appropriate supervisors and/or administrators, be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all personnel in the business office, buildings and grounds, food services and transportation services.
3. Recommend to the district administrator the employment, transfer and discharge of personnel in buildings and groups, food services and business office.

C. Curriculum
The director of fiscal and building operations shall:
1. In cooperation with building principals, plan and direct a program of continuous training aimed at increasing the skills of school business personnel and developing proper attitudes toward district educational objectives.
2. Cooperate with instructional personnel.

D. Public Relations
The director of fiscal and building operations shall:
1. Provide the district administrator with information that will help the Board’s relationship with the public and interpret the business area of educational programs to the public and educational staff.

E. General
The director of fiscal and building operations shall:
1. Plan, develop, administer, coordinate, evaluate and report on programs.
2. Be responsible for staff selection and development.
3. Be responsible for budgeting and fiscal control.

F. Other
The director of fiscal and building operations shall:
1. Serve as the district safety coordinator, along with the supervisor of buildings and grounds.
2. Serve as an active member of the administrative team and work cooperatively with all other administrators.
3. Assume all other responsibilities and perform all other duties as assigned by the district administrator for the benefit of the district.
