Early Childhood Special Education Teacher – Birth-5 (2723)
The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will work with families and students (Birth to age 5) in the home and in a preschool setting. The teacher will consult with staff about students under the Developmental Delay category who in an Elementary school. The teacher will work with a team of staff to assess, identify, and provide direct services to students and families that qualify for services. The position will be split roughly 60% preschool setting and 40% Birth-3. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Knowledgeof child growth and development, principles of coaching, effective communication skills, and the ability to develop positive and trusting relationships with families. This position requires direct special education services, assessments, and family consultation to be provided in the home setting for children ages birth to three with special needs. Perform age appropriate educational assessments with children in the home and/or early childhood setting. Develop, write, and implement appropriate IFSPs and IEPs and other documentation required by ISD #15 and MDE. Attend and sometimes facilitate IFSP/IEP meetings for assigned students. Work in a team setting to provide effective educational opportunities that will assist children and their families in achieving their individual outcomes as well as working with families to coordinate and integrate educational services, social services, health services, and parent education. Assist Early Childhood staff in child find activities. Model appropriate adult/child interaction. Consult with other staff members to provide a rich learning environment -pre-k to Kindergarten. Educational Assistant, Special Education (2720 and 2722)
Overview of the Position: School is challenging for all students. Many students in our schools face additional challenges due to some type of disability, which may be physical, cognitive, emotional or behavioral. Educational Assistants implement instructional strategies under the direction and supervision of licensed teachers. The primary role of the Educational Assistant is to provide support for a student or group of students in a variety of classroom settings throughout their school day. All job specific training will be provided by the district at no cost to the employee. Under the direction of the classroom teacher and the special education teacher, provide assistance to students with disabilities to help them be successful in all aspects of their school day. Assist in the implementation of a variety of academic, social or behavioral strategies and supports for individual students. Collect and record data pertaining to the successes and challenges of assigned students. Participate in student planning meetings and department meetings to facilitate student success. Depending on specific duty assignment, this position may also require: proper lifting/transferring of students implementation of sensory or behavior plans assisting students with personal cares and skills of daily living

*Manage enrollment process for students with IEPs from inquiry to enrollment and IEP team action *Communicate and consult with teachers regarding the instructional program for students with disabilities or other special needs *Assist in writing evaluation reports and IEPs *Coordinate out of district placement meetings and serve as District Representative *Routinely review IEPs for compliance alignment *Assist in the development, tracking, dissemination and proper implementation of IEP or 504 *Communicate directly with parents, as needed, to answer questions *Develop a working knowledge curricular options, and how they can be adapted and implemented to meet specific student needs; introduce new ways of supporting students with special needs *Interpret issues relating to the following: special education due process procedures; compliance with state and federal laws; educational programming for students with disabilities; identification of students with disabilities, ages birth-21 and inclusion *Provide supervision to special education staff as assigned by Director *Plan and carry out in-services to meet staff development needs and provide technological support for computerized IEP program- e.g. SpEd Forms, Infinite Campus *Consult with school personnel and parents of children with disabilities regarding appropriate programming and/or follow-up services and assures appropriate reporting to parents *Work with Child Study Committees in developing, implementing, and evaluating proper child study procedures *Serve as a building level resource to principals, assistant principals, and lead teachers concerning special education issues. *Negotiate, conciliate and mediate conflicts unresolved at the building level to assist in successful programming for students. *Facilitate special education homebound services. *Attend and consult with district wide specific disability area service providers (i.e., speech clinicians, motor team, and assistive technology).
