School Counselor

School Counselor: This is a 1.0 FTE position beginning in August 2017. The school counselor will work collaboratively to provide a comprehensive counseling program for all students. This individual will partner with teachers, staff, administrators, and parents to enhance students’ social, emotional and academic success. The school counselor will demonstrate flexibility and compassion and be able to successfully work across all divisions, particularly the Middle and Upper Schools. The school counselor will act as an advocate for all students and adhere to ethical and legal professional standards. Finally, the ideal person must have the ability to collaborate as a member of a team, have strong communication skills, and be adaptable to many different needs and situations. Primary Responsibilities *Foster the personal growth, educational development, and emotional well-being of all students and encourage maximum growth and development *Implement or assist in implementing a safe school climate that results in academic and personal/social success for all students *Provide one-to-one and group counseling to students who need support in areas such as anxiety, stress management, self-harm, eating disorders, social skills, grief/healing, transition, and anger management *Collaborate on the organization and administration of assessments as needed *Assist in implementing an on-site crisis intervention/management plan *Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs. *Monitor student academic performance, social, and emotional behavior and assist with appropriate interventions *Provide in-service education to other school personnel to enhance their ability to promote healthy functioning and respond appropriately to student difficulties *Work collaboratively with the Student Services department and serve on various committees *Serve as a community expert for emotional health related topics within seminar and health classes Skills and Knowledge *Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of Mounds Park Academy *Strong knowledge of school counseling services *Excellent skills in oral and written communications *Ability to work with and get along well with others *Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects, and handle time deadlines

Special Education Teacher EBD/LD
