Literacy Coach
General Definition of Work: Performs professional work supporting K-5 staff in the implementation of the site reading plan and program, working directly with teachers in a school providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development. The Literacy Coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ ability to provide instruction that builds students’ sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. The Literacy Coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect, analyze and interpret data, and use it to guide instructional decisions. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Principal and reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. Essential Functions: Guides teachers to collect and analyze data and develop action plans in response to student needs. Provides individualized, classroom-based support to implement a comprehensive program. This will include modeling of best teaching practices. Works with principals within the site to create a school-wide focus on goals for reading achievement. Supports Professional Learning Communities by providing training, data collection and conversation facilitation to support shifts in instructional practice. Completes monthly status reports for the Principals and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. Participates in professional development opportunities, professional research and reading.
