Principal Intern – Aspiring Principal Academy
OVERVIEW Aspiring Principal Interns are exceptional, motivated leaders with an urgent desire to transform underperforming urban schools and dramatically increase student achievement. Principal Interns are participants in MPS’ rigorous, full-time Aspiring Principal Academy. Over 12 months, they develop and apply the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful transformational principals in MPS, while working towards a MN K-12 principal license. Upon successful completion of a four-week summer intensive, Aspiring Principal Interns engage in a full academic-year residency at an MPS school. They assume leadership responsibilities, while being mentored by school principals and coached by program facilitators. They also engage in weekly professional development seminars and attend classes offered by our University partner. They complete rigorous, standards-aligned assignments. Commitment and Performance Expectations Principal Interns must complete each phase of the Aspiring Principal Academy to successfully advance through the program. Successful graduates of the Academy will be eligible for principal licensure through a partnership with our accredited University. They will apply for open principal positions in the district and will be required to fulfill a 3-year service commitment to work in MPS.
