 Job Summary: To inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by actively inspiring and preparing scholars for success through system-level leadership, emphasizing research, program evaluation, planning, and instructional excellence for equitable achievement via a rigorous curriculum in all district schools. Supervising and coordinating the activities of an assistant director, coordinators, teachers on special assignment and instructional coaches.  Maintaining a system that clearly defines all processes related to district-wide curriculum implementation, instructional staff development, instructional media and technology, and compliance with the Minnesota Academic Standards and graduation requirements.  Coordinating and providing technical direction for operations and activities in assessment, research, analysis, interpretation, and reporting to support the planning and evaluation of programs in the district.  Assisting leaders understand and improve student indicators and success through a robust Minnesota Multi-Tiered Systems and Supports (MnMTSS) framework.  Overseeing District standardized testing including the training and support of testing coordinators.  Building organizational capacity in the use of data to help improve student achievement.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Administration. Education Specialist Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge and training in curriculum, instruction, assessment, staff development, and the Minnesota Academic Standards.
  • Three years of experience serving in district or building leadership position(s).
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Pre-K-12 literacy experience.
  • Must hold a Minnesota Principal or Administrative License.
  • Prior administrator/principal experience and/or prior experience in staff development/curriculum & instruction is preferred.

Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of mission statement, goals, and philosophy as it impacts area of responsibility and the characteristics of an effective and equitable system-wide program.
  • Knowledge of programmatic improvement process including research, development, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of laws, state mandates, regulations and procedures related to areas of responsibility.
  • Understanding of culturally responsive administrative and teaching practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of budgeting and revenue sources and ability to recommend budgets based on system needs.
  • Ability to collect, organize and report data required by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Special Service Coordinator

  • Provide a broad range of professional services to students, staff, families, and the community.
  • Actively engage, collaborate, and consult with students, families, and community-based service providers in promoting school success for students, developing intervention strategies to assist with programming for students.
  • Assist administration/serve as administrative liaison to:
    • Support special education staff development activities that will positively impact student achievement and overall success.
    • Assist with program options/additions for high needs students.
    • Assist administration with behavioral interventions and alternatives to suspension.
    • Assist in recruiting, supervising and evaluating the performance of special education staff and programs, including conducting formal teacher observations.
    • Assess and implement staff development needs for special education and other staff.
    • Assist with workshop sessions for licensed special education staff.
    • Conduct group training and individual coaching sessions as needed.
    • Monitor and evaluate special education programs and services for compliance with District’s expectations, State and Federal rules.
    • Be first contact for community and continuum of care facilities regarding return or admittance of students.
    • Serve as support for resource and program students and staff.
    • Attend IEP meetings and participate in IEP development.
    • Assist administration with due process compliance, improve IEP goal/objective writing, increase proficiency in evaluation writing, and collaborate with regular education teachers to meet students’ needs in the regular education classroom.
