Position Summary:
Provide academic and goal-based learning experiences that enhance student progress across all settings.

Primary Job Functions:

  1. Contribute to and participate in the building student support teams.
  2. Serve as an IEP/IFSP case manager.
  3. Work as a team member in staffings.  Facilitate team meetings to review student progress and develop IEP/IFSP as related to student needs.
  4. Plan and implement appropriate educational programs for individuals.
  5. Implement educational plans as describe on individual IEP/IIIP/IFSP and provide information for building staff as needed.
  6. Maintain appropriate records and reports.  Collect data on progress on goals and objectives for each student and meet all required timelines.
  7. Develop, coordinate, and evaluate transition related experiences for students, if applicable.
  8. Provide work direction to paraprofessional staff members.
  9. Communicate effectively with students, families, educators, and administrators regarding student programs and progress.
  10. Collaborate with students, families, related service providers, outside agencies, and other team members to promote growth of each student.
  11. Work cooperatively with general education teachers and staff and provide building consultation, support and training as needed.
  12. Create and maintain a professional working relationship with families and staff.
  13. Obtain and demonstrate knowledge of general education curriculum including the grade level outcomes and state standards.
  14. Conduct assessments, comprehensive report results, and follow Minnesota state criteria in area(s) of special education eligibility as well as mandated timelines.
  15. Determine and complete purchase orders for supplies, materials, and equipment based on student needs.
  16. Participate in building and District level professional development activities.
  17. Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families and staff.
  18. Perform all other duties and responsibilities in certification areas as directed by the Director of Special Services and/or the Building Principal.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of desktop computer hardware and software systems, including software products such as Microsoft Office or Google Apps and multi-faceted data or database management systems;

Essential Functions

  • CORRESPONDENCE: Formats and types a full range of correspondence such as memos, form letters, reports, agenda notes etc. from rough draft, transcription, department templates and/or develops own communication documents to disseminate pertinent information to customers or internal staff. Proofreads for content. Edits using knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling;
  • FILING: Designs filing systems. Organizes and maintains individual and department files (including confidential files);
  • REPORT GENERATION/WRITING: Compiles and generates reports from a variety of sources. Prepares narrative or statistical reports, exercising judgment in the selection of items to be included;
  • INTERPERSONAL: Provides excellent customer service while adhering to departments customer service guidelines. Answers routing phone calls, e-mails, and other correspondence details in a timely and consistent manner. Provides advice to callers regarding district policy and procedures (e.g. citing a regulation to solve a specific problem). Coordinates with others both within and outside of the organization on a variety of non-routine matters;
  • SUPPORTING ROLE: Arranges and coordinates meetings (including space, equipment, and any food arrangements). Researches, assembles and coordinates meeting materials (e.g. charts, graphs, reports). Makes travel arrangements;
  • OFFICE MANAGEMENT: Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment. Orders supplies when necessary. Completes processes and maintains paperwork for purchasing (e.g. orders, requisitions, invoices, etc.). Maintains employee time and attendance records. Assists in preparing and monitoring the office budget (e.g. compiles figures, reviews statistical reports, verifies expense items). Designs and initiates new forms and procedures to facilitate workflow. Performs related duties as required;
  • DATA MANAGEMENT/PROOFING: Manages and enters detailed entry of specific data elements. Types with a high degree of accuracy and speed. Verifies data entered by incumbent or someone else and makes corrections as necessary;
  • PROCESSING: Handling (paper, records, etc.) by systematically organizing them, recording or making notations on them, following up with appropriate action;
  • RECORDS MANAGEMENT: Maintains and updates Document Management System software as well as computer network file environment. Understands and follows District Records Retention Schedule, record destruction policy and department procedures related to records;
  • SUPPORT/TRAIN/COACH: Provide support, training and coaching to staff members and other relevant customers on system related tools and processes as needed.
  • INDEPENDENT PROBLEM SOLVER/CRITICAL THINKER: Uses independent judgment when communicating with internal and external customers. Requires minimum supervision and direction on day to day tasks. Regularly recognizes, recommends and provides input into the implementation process of a more effective method to work operations.
  • TECHNOLOGY: Works with district provided hardware technology and systems using these tools to perform functions of the job. Chemical Health Coordinator

Special Education – Independent Living Instructor

Summary of Scope of Classification
This class is accountable for instruction and supervision to a group of students in areas of Independent Living and skill development.

Instructional Content

  • Cooking for Independent Living: This course introduces students to planning, organizing and cooking meals for themselves using ingredients at home. Additional students explore food safety, following recipes, kitchen safety rules, and cooking methods through practical sessions. Students learn various cooking methods such as how to chop, sauté, bake, and more. Additional topics include Kitchen Math, working with different food groups, working in a restaurant, and the art of handling knives and smallware in this hands-on course.

  • Considerable knowledge of planning, developing, and implementing curriculum and lesson plans;
  • Knowledge of educational principles, methods, and techniques;

  • Provides instruction in a specific CTE area based upon the curriculum.  Develops and implements instructional activities for students.  Develops and copies instructional materials, orders instructional materials, supplies, and products for the classroom and lab.  Makes appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies, including computer technology.  Provides for remediation when necessary.  Revises teaching methodology to accommodate students.  Maintains instructional equipment as appropriate;
  • Provides students with co-curricular experiences that support or enhance the curriculum;
  • Communicates clear expectations to students.  Evaluates student performance; communicates student progress, or lack of student progress, to each student, the administration, and to the appropriate home school;

Computer Science and Information Technology Instructor

Summary of Scope of Classification
This class is accountable for instruction and supervision to a group of students in such areas as Cybersecurity, Computer Repair and Networking Systems.

Instructional Content

  • Cybersecurity: Cybersecurity courses introduce students to the concepts of cybersecurity. These courses provide students with the knowledge and skills to assess cyber risks to computers, networks, and software programs. Students will learn how to create solutions to mitigate cybersecurity risks. These courses may also cover the legal environment and ethical computing behavior related to cybersecurity.
  • Computer Repair: Computer Maintenance and Repair courses prepare students to apply basic electronic theory and principles in diagnosing and repairing personal computers and input/output devices. Topics may include operating, installing, maintaining, and repairing computers, network systems, digital control instruments, programmable controllers, and processors.
  • Networking Systems: Networking Systems courses are designed to provide students with the opportunity to understand and work with hubs, switches, and routers. Students develop an understanding of LAN (local area network), WAN (wide area network), wireless connectivity, and Internet-based communications (including cloud-based computing), with a strong emphasis on network function, design, and installation practices. Students acquire skills in the design, installation, maintenance, and management of network systems that may help them obtain network certification.
