POSITION SUMMARY: 
Perform instructional leadership and management of the educational program to maximize student learning under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent.   Manage, evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, goals and strategic plan of the school district.  This includes instructional programs, co-curricular activities, and student management systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations and emergency procedures.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as a building instructional leader.
  • Create and maintain a school culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and personal responsibility.
  • Develop and administer annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for all students.
  • Continually monitor student progress and outcomes.  Work with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and public relations with staff, students, parents and community members through all programs and activities.
  • Prepare and manage budget for the building, maintain accurate budgetary records as required by district policies and procedures.
  • Establish a high performing staff through effective hiring and evaluation systems.  Develop, coach, train, mentor and manage staff as appropriate.
  • Manage, evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, goals and strategic plan of the school district including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, school board policies and school district procedures.
  • Supervise the instructional programs of the school on a regular basis to ensure the use of effective instructional strategies, content and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  • Work with staff to identify professional needs and plan, organize, and facilitate programs that improve staff effectiveness.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages staff and students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students.
  • Establish a professional rapport with students and staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model.
  • Participate in professional development workshops, activities and seminars.

Executive Director of Student Support Services

POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, directs, and controls activities to achieve or exceed objectives in assigned areas of responsibility, including Special Education, Multilingual Services and Health Services. Providing supervision to the Departments of Special Education, Multilingual Services, Health Services and Federal Programs.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct staff in the development, management, and articulation of special education, multilingual services, and health services.
  • Develop and manage the budgets for those programs under the direction of this position.
  • Prepare recommendations for new programs, program changes, facilities, staffing, equipment, and financing in all program areas under the direction of this position.
  • Prepare an annual plan and report that summarizes student participation, financing, and other related information relative to the programs under the supervision of this position.
  • Provide specific program evaluations that assist administration in the evaluation of program effectiveness and cost/benefit in those areas under the supervision of this position.
  • Represent the district and serve as a liaison with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE); keep district administration aware of changes, funding, accounting, reporting, evaluation, and staff certification; monitor changes in Federal, State, and local legislation and guidelines affective areas under the supervision of this position.
  • Ensure claims, complaints, grievances, and inquiries are handled promptly and appropriately.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments and agencies so that the needs and welfare of district students are met.
  • Support the district’s strategic plan and the development of department improvement plans.

Staff Development:

  • Delegate duties, responsibilities, and authority to make maximum use of experience and skills.
  • Provide or encourage participation in staff development opportunities for various roles and jobs to develop the knowledge and skills needed to excel.
  • Conduct appropriate job searches for qualified candidates for vacancies in the programs under the supervision of this position.
  • Participate in annual review/evaluation of new hires in cooperation with building and school administration.
  • Make recommendations for retention of new employees.
  • Participate in district-level leadership activities and committees.

Personal Development:

  • Keep current with laws, trends, materials, and methods in programs under the supervision of this position.
  • Attend meetings, conventions, conferences, and events that will contribute to an awareness and understanding of changes and new procedures in the programs under the supervision of this position.

Public Relations Development:

  • Promote public awareness and understanding of the programs under the supervision of this program.
  • Invite public participation through publications, presentations, news releases, and the use of advisory committees.
