High School Assistant Principal for Experiential Learning, 1.0 FTE 12 months

Summary: 
Under the supervision of the High School Principal, the High School Assistant Principal for Experiential Learning provides instructional leadership, supervision, and management in implementing the policies of the School Board.  The Assistant Principal oversees teaching, learning, and other activities at the VANTAGE and MOMENTUM Programs at Minnetonka High School and VANTAGE/MOMENTUM building.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the principal in developing and carrying out the school’s vision, mission, and goals.
  2. Serve as a member of the District’s administrative team and actively participate in the development, implementation, and achievement of the District’s goals with a focus on experiential learning.
  3. Build strong, deep and authentic relationships with students, staff, parents and community members.
  4. Support a positive, caring and student-centered school culture.
  5. Actively participate in the recruitment, selection, assignment,  evaluation, and professional development of staff members for the VANTAGE and MOMENTUM. Supervise and evaluate licensed and non-licensed staff.
  6. Lead the development, recruitment, and implementation of experiential and inquiry based learning opportunities for the VANTAGE and MOMENTUM programs such as project partners, mentors, and guest instructors.
  7. Share responsibility for building security for property and persons, including providing supervision of specific areas of the building and managing general operations such as budget, parking, supplies and equipment of the VANTAGE/MOMENTUM building.
  8. Support the Student Support Services team around ensuring all students find success and the necessary support.
  9. Support the work of innovation at the building with staff and students.
  10. Maintain high standards for student behavior and enforcing discipline as necessary in accordance with student handbook and district policy.
  11. Provide feedback/coaching to staff that emphasizes maximizing the student experience, continued professional growth, and focus on cultivating a positive school culture.
  12. Lead professional development in the building around the experiential learning framework.
  13. Create, and maintain partnerships with parents, community members, business partners, advisory boards, post-secondary institutions about experiential learning opportunities  Serve as the principal’s liaison at school and at professional public meetings in the principal’s absence.
  14. Attend student activities, games, and special events. Be a visible presence in the school and actively engage with the school community.
  15. Attend local, state and national conferences, conventions and workshops as assigned.
