DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Teaching and Learning provides district-wide coordination and leadership in the establishment of systems for continuous improvement; curriculum evaluation; testing assessment; and student learning performance and staff development at all levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Directs and coordinates all general education learner programming to include online and summer school options.
Oversees specialized programming such as Gifted and Talented, AVID, and District-wide equity work, regularly evaluating district and individual performance and making changes as necessary to ensure ongoing effectiveness.
Oversees state and federal funded programs including Indian Education Program, Achievement and Integration, Title I, and ADSIS.
Capitalizes on new and innovative strategies as they relate to curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Collaborates with and provides direction to the administrative teams in monitoring and articulating student achievement, site and program goals.
Continually reviews district programming in light of best practices to improve instruction and increase student achievement.
Oversees and coordinates all pre-K through grade 12 assessments.
Evaluates, interprets and uses testing data to improve instructional practices.
Coordinates K-12 curriculum development, implementation, review, and materials adoptions ensuring alignment throughout the District with best practices and state and federal standards.
Coordinates instructional and curricular changes, developing and implementing staff development as needed to ensure effective implementation of such.
Collaborates with the high school administration to support and direct ALC programming
Collaborates with Special Services to coordinate, implement, and monitor multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) district-wide.
Coordinates with the Technology department to integrate technology with instructional programming.
Reports to the Board and Superintendent to set educational goals and report educational progress within the district.
Provides leadership and coordinates district and on-site committees, including the World’s Best Workforce.
Advises and collaborates with staff and the public in planning, problem-solving and coordinating educational services throughout the district based upon research, best practices, financial requirements, educational needs and district long and short range planning.
Coordinates staff development, teacher development and evaluation, and new mentor/new teaching programming.
Prepares and submits local, federal and state reports for curriculum, testing, student achievement, and staff development activities, outcomes, or results.
Plans, implements, and monitors budgets for all areas of Teaching and Learning.
Collaborates to develops and revise District policies and regulations related to Teaching and Learning for School Board approval.
Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.

Provides professional expertise and assistance to individuals, other district staff and the community concerning areas of instructional expertise/knowledge.
Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, district and departmental meetings.
Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, instructional and educational technologies.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:Learning processes, models, theories, and educational technologies, trends and developments.
Knowledge of district organizational structure and administrative policies and procedures.
Principles, best practices, techniques and methods applied to the assessment, measurement and evaluation of curriculum, student achievement and instruction.
Fundamental of school finance.
Pertinent laws, rules, guidelines and regulations pertaining to areas of accountability.
Knowledge of instructional technologies and software, equipment, tools and devices used presenting instruction, documenting assessments, student progress or other classroom administrative requirements of the district.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Duties are generally performed in a typical district office/school setting where there are minimal environmental hazards and risks.

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:State of MN K-12 Building Principal License
State of MN Superintendent License preferred
Education
Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Educational Administration or related area.

Experience
At least three years teaching experience and experience in curriculum development, assessment and staff development responsibilities.

Student Supervisor (Two Positions)
