Middle School Principal

Wayzata Public Schools is currently seeking Middle School Principal candidates to provide strong and effective educational leadership for Wayzata Central Middle School. The Central Middle School Principal is responsible for overall direction, instructional leadership and maintaining a positive learning environment for each and every student.  Current enrollment is approximately 1400 students, grades 6-8.  The school has approximately 110 staff.

Basic Functions:
The Middle School Principal is the educational leader at the school and creates and maintains a positive climate with high expectations for all students and staff, provides evaluation and professional coaching to instruction and support staff, manages and allocates resources in accordance with the District’s vision and mission, works towards implementation of district and school goals and policies with strong emphasis on Equity and closing the opportunity gap, develops strong relationships with staff, students and the community
Specific ResponsibilitiesOversees daily school operations to include: providing instructional leadership; developing student behavior standards  and guidelines; developing, implementing, revising, and reviewing policies and procedures; developing mission statements; establishing performance goals and objectives; providing oversight for the safety and security within the school environment; and developing partnerships with businesses, communities, and other organizations.
Supervises staff at an assigned school to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
Directs and monitors the operational budgets including establishing preliminary and final budgets; administering assigned budgets; and monitoring site expenditures.
Establishes, monitors, and enforces comprehensive student behavioral and discipline programs, ensuring consistency in the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, working closely with students, teachers, staff, and parents.
Ensures school site adherence and compatibility with District goals, objectives, and strategic initiatives; and sets the climate on issues related to applicable initiatives and policies.
Participates in a variety of meetings, which may include: District meetings, parent or guardian conferences, special education briefings, staff and/or committee meetings, staff development sessions, and/or other related meetings.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Education and experience:Successful middle school teaching and administrative experience.  Experience in a variety of educational settings, demonstrated effectiveness working with children and families from diverse backgrounds.

License Requirement:
Licensure as required by the State of Minnesota for School Administrators.

Support and work closely with teachers in providing educational and resources support for students.

The Mahtomedi School District hosts a 3,200-student population and is located in the northeast metropolitan area; which comprises an E-2 Elementary, 3-5 Elementary, Middle School grades 6-8, High School grades 9-12 along with a Transition program for students aged 18-21.

The Middle School serves approximately 850 students and 75 staff. This position collaborates with a team of six other principals and an administrative leadership team in the District.
