Integration & Equity Liaison – Somali

Hours:  Monday thru Friday, 8.0 hours per day – 10 month

Primary Objective: Community/Cultural Liaisons serve as a bridge; student-to-student; student-to-school; school-to-family and family-to-community.  The focus is on engaging, supporting and empowering students of color, immigrant and refugee students, or students otherwise isolated, in order to increase and improve communication and cultural understanding, resolve concerns student-student, student to school, and school to family, and increase protective factors for students.  Build long-term, meaningful relationships with diverse families resulting in more parent involvement and student success.  This position will work closely with Somali families and students.
Qualifications:Minimum of four year College Degree or Equivalent Education.
Proven ability to work in collaboration with schools and community resources.
Proven ability to work respectfully and responsively with diverse populations of youth and families, community members, health and human service providers, city and county government and educators.
Possess a strength-based, child/youth-family centered philosophy.

Desired Qualifications:Strong child/youth advocacy and mediation skills.
Understanding of the concept of equity in education.
Understanding of school policy and best practices in Youth Development, Cultural Competency, and Special Education.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience facilitating and leading groups of educators, children and youth.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple assignments independently and with high and consistent follow through.
Proven ability to work in a diverse team environment
Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about Suburban Ramsey community needs, initiatives and resources.
Ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner.

Job Responsibilities/Principal Duties:Enhance meaningful and authentic youth engagement, involvement and leadership in both school and community.
Utilize culturally and linguistically competent/relevant and respectful approaches at all levels of service and in all interventions.
Bridge communication and cultural understanding to resolve concerns in the following situations: student-student, student to school, and school to family.
Help families access to school resources.
Make phone calls (interpret when necessary) to families regarding recurring academic, concerns, attendance, health, lunch accounts, field trips or behavior issues or other requests by principals.
Act as a resource to school and community agency staff regarding working with students and families from other cultures.
Work to create increased school connectedness by supporting culturally inclusive clubs, character building activities, community building activities, service learning projects, cross cultural events, and student leadership activities.
Assisting with compiling annual reports.

Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator

Provides leadership for the Early Childhood Special Education teams (B-3; 3-5 and kindergarten level) and designated related services E-12 staff.
Provides staff supervision and evaluation with teachers and paraprofessionals.
Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the system for referral, assessment and service options for handicapped children ages 0-6 years.
Provides assistance to the Executive Director of Student Support Services and business office for the ECSE budget and program expenditures and all other duties as assigned.
Represents the District on Early Intervention Committee and activities; attends area and regional meetings pertaining to Early Childhood Special Education and designated related service activities.
Interprets and monitors the criteria for early childhood special education eligibility.
Develops alternative service options for identified students with special education needs..
Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the system for student data collection for the purposes of state and federal reporting.
Coordinates ECSE outreach activities.
Provides work direction and evaluation of ECSE Program Secretary and paraprofessionals.
Develops a plan to identify non-public school resources and services and develops relationships with non-public school service agencies
Assists the Executive Director of Student Support Services with policy statements and procedures regarding Early Childhood Special Education services.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Health Services Coordinator

Job Responsibilities:

Supervise, coordinate, and provide leadership for the operations and staff of health services.
Provide consultative services in the areas of 504 plans, individual health plans, IEP teams, wellness and health, health and safety, emergency preparedness, AEDs, First Aid and CPR, and immunizations.
Develop and revise policy and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal law and the MN Nurse Practice Act.
Coordinate the nursing portion of third-party billing, assist in the implementation of billing expectations and procedures. This could include reviewing IEP’s, assisting with care plan development and training PCA’s.
Provide system-wide and school-wide approaches to promote health, a positive school climate, and reduce barriers to learning.
Plan and network with community partners to support student health and well-being.
Interpret health mandates, recommendations and trends to school personnel.
Manage Health Services budget, approve expenditures and payroll processing.
Manage the pupil health and record system following the district and state record retention policy as well as student data privacy policy and FERPA.
Serve as a resource to staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Principal Middle School

Job Summary:
Is the instructional and supervisor leader for the school.  Supervises all employees to ensure implementation of curriculum and educational standards according to State law and District policy.

Essential job functions include the following:
– Supervises the schools education program.

– Facilitate the implementation and observance of all School Board policies and regulations and central administration directives.

– Facilitate the implementation and observance of all State and Federal laws and regulations required of a special education setting.
– Supervises all staff assigned to the school.

– Assumes primary responsibility in personnel planning, recruiting, hiring, developing, assigning and evaluating school staff.

– Maintain appropriate standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary and according to due process.

– Supervise the schools relationships with other school districts, counties, and other human service agencies that are worked with on a continuing basis.

– Supervise the preparation of all school reports for the DSC, including the maintenance of accurate records on attendance, health and progress of students, and all information required for tuition billing and State reimbursement.

– Act as liaison between the school and the community.

– Assist in the preparation of the schools budget and supervise the spending process.

– Monitor and make adjustments in the schools population depending upon severity of presenting student disturbances, revenue requirements and space.

– Administer the collective bargaining contracts of the school staff.
