SUMMARY

Provide quality instruction aligned to the state and national standards. Use a variety of assessment strategies – diagnostic, formative and summative, to inform instructional decisions and increase student self-management of learning. Rigorous inquiry-based learning tasks engage students in deep content of the discipline as well as the habits of scholarship. May be required to work as a member of the campus STEM team to ensure quality integrated instruction across disciplines.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessment of students’ English Language Proficiency Levels.
Prepare and conduct lessons for ELL students new to the country in order to meet Minnesota English Language Proficiency Standards.
Communicate with families regarding students’ school program, collaborating with bilingual staff as appropriate.
Develop and maintain native language skills while accelerating English acquisition.
Support student’s academic language development n content areas, particularly Language Arts.
Collaborate with school staff and leadership concerning the development, implementation and evaluation of best practices and instructional strategies for ELL students to attain high academic achievement according to District and State Standards.
Participate in ongoing staff, team and individual professional development. Facilitate the process of exiting students from the ELL program.

 

Executive Director of Finance and Operations

Executive Director of Finance and Operations

The Executive Director of Finance and Operations for Austin Public Schools provides district-level leadership and coordination of the Finance Department, Facilities Services, Food and Nutrition Services, and Transportation Services. This cabinet-level position is responsible for implementing learning and change management in alignment with the strategic priorities of Austin Public Schools.

Leadership
• Align fiscal and human resources to assist the District in meeting its mission, vision, and strategic plan
• Coordinate professional development for all members of the Finance and Operations departments
• Monitor continuous improvement and change management of internal processes

• Lead cross-functional work in collaboration with other departments to ensure customer service to internal and external stakeholders

• Facilitate the Finance, Facilities, and Insurance Committees

 

Financial Management
• Evaluate, develop, and implement processes for business office procedures in compliance with state and federal laws
• Review and approve contracts for goods and services
• Review and approve general ledger journal entries
• Direct, supervise, and evaluate the Finance Department, Facilities Services Director, and Food & Nutrition Services Director.
• Coordinate all district student transportation with the third-party transportation provider

Reporting
• Review and interpret internal financial reports with School Board and stakeholders
• Coordinate and review monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required
• Administer fiscal portion of federal and state programs and grants as needed
• Coordinate and review reports, worksheets, and data related to audit, respond to auditor’s questions, and resolve identified issues

Budgeting
• Prepare operating budgets, projecting revenues and expenditures, and review and modify budgets as necessary
• Monitor budgets to comply with state and federal reporting guidelines
• Prepare capital expenditure budget and ten-year capital improvement plan
• Prepare cost studies on programs as needed

• Work with building principals/site leaders and departments to prepare and monitor their budgets

Risk Management
• Administer District insurance programs to ensure adequate coverage levels
• Administer District employee insurance programs in compliance with state and federal laws and employee contracts

Other
• Actively participate in employee contract negotiations, providing data and insight on proposals
• Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field and three to five or more years of fiscal management experience

DEMONSTRATED ABILITIES:

Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and legal/governmental regulations related to performing this position.
Effectively use current technology tools to enhance personal productivity.
Write and/or present reports, documents, presentations, proposals, and general correspondence clearly and concisely.
Develop long-range plans, establish and successfully achieve goals, and make consistently sound, defensible decisions in performing all aspects of this position.
Working knowledge of applicable and payroll-related tax laws, retirement legislation, TRA, TSA regulations, child support rules, leaves and garnishments, and other regulations that require compliance by the District in its payroll administration.
Provide leadership through school-business cycle events such as Open Enrollments and ACA reporting.
Demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skills, and abilities to effect consistent accuracy, reliability, and confidentiality in all aspects of payroll administration.
Possess knowledge of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to pupil transportation for Minnesota public school systems.
Supervisory experience involving public organization facilities maintenance, operations, and construction
Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the operations and maintenance of school facilities
Demonstrate knowledge of applicable District, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations related to food service.

Director of Special Education – SPECTRUM Program Director

Hiawatha Valley Education District is looking for a Director of Special Education – SPECTRUM Program Director in Hokah, MN.  The Director of Special Education is responsible for monitoring and overseeing all aspects of the special education programs and services in their assigned program.  This position works closely with the program’s administrative teams and special education staff to ensure effective special education programming and leadership in special education, due process monitoring and compliance, and management of administrative tasks.  This position will work a 240 day calendar.

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Qualifications

  • Appropriate Special Education background and certification as a Director of Special Education is required
  • Knowledge of educational curriculum, individualization of instruction, and analytic teaching approaches
  • Knowledge of and experience working in a level III or IV Autism Program is preferred

Leads and mentors a cross-departmental team in order to facilitate integration, instructional design, collaboration, professional development, and technology into a coordinated structure.
Develops and executes team agendas and objectives for K-12 programming including culturally responsive and equitable practices for all students in MPS; develops pathways and instructional practices, integration, and innovative program options that increase student achievement.
Leads the work of elementary and secondary education, and collaborates with other department leads and principals to ensure alignment of K-12 program implementation, planning, monitoring, and shared leadership.
Collaborates with Early Childhood Education to ensure alignment in early childhood academic programs and K-12 academic programs.
Integrates diversity, inclusion, and equity into all aspects of the mission and culture of MPS.
Develops program goals and evaluation plans to effectively assess current programming and materials; determines plans for expansion and priorities.
Analyzes reports and provides communication to community and schools.
Prepares and administers budgets, prepares grant applications, and solicits funds to provide financial support for programs as needed.
Facilitates interagency planning and collaboration between the district, department and external partners to support expanded opportunities and/or improved outcomes for students; coordinates with community partners, grant funders, local and regional organizations involved with K-12 and special programming on behalf of MPS.
Manages assigned staff, and assigns tasks, programmatic responsibilities, and projects; evaluates performance, resolves workload and technical issues, and assures that goals are defined and achieved; develops staff skills and training plans, and conducts performance evaluations.
Maintains working relationship with other academic departments, K-12 principals, site leads, and the Board of Education to ensure information exchange and coordination of efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Position Functions, Duties, Responsibilities:

Facilitate district Health and Physical Education programs
Implement strategies that reduce/eliminate racial disparities in student outcome and course enrollments.
Ensure that strategies for specific students, including English learner support, Special Education services, and advanced learner support are integrated seamlessly into core curriculum and professional development.
Ensure alignment of physical education instructional practices and assessments with the Minnesota Academic Standards.
Lead process of creating/adopting culturally relevant instructional materials which support standards-based teaching and learning and integration of literacy and content.
Facilitate conversations amongst community organizations to gather input in developing, vetting, and revising curricular resources.
Collaborate with District-wide departments (i.e. Equity and Integration, Social Emotional Learning and Student Wellness).
Design and lead professional development on health and physical education curriculum, instruction, and assessment for school leaders and teachers.
Build the capacity of school leadership teams to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning at the site.
