The School District of New Richmond is seeking an instructional educational leader who can work as part of a close-knit administrative team, would be a supportive leader to an excellent teaching and support staff, has strong student relationship skills, and who can help coordinate curriculum and school improvement efforts centered on high expectations.
REPORTS TO:

SUPERVISES:
All certified and non-certified employees assigned to the high school or delegated by the district administrator. This includes the direct supervision of any Assistant Principal and Activities Director.
JOB FUNCTION:
The high school principal shall provide leadership and direction for an educational program which includes all activities that occur in the school. He/she shall coordinate those activities so that each student will have a sequential program designed to most effectively promote his/her development. Although the high school principal may delegate authority, he/she shall be the person ultimately responsible for decisions in the high school.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Administration
The high school principal shall:
1. Work with professional staff to determine immediate and long-range financial needs for the instructional program and relate those needs to the district administrator.
2. Recommend to the district administrator the employment, transfer and discharge of all certified staff, aides and secretaries working in the building.
3. Meet and consult with the district administrator in order that Board policies may be executed in a consistent and coordinated manner throughout the district.
4. Work with the district administrator in carrying out Board policies pertaining to the operation of the school.
B. Supervision
The high school principal shall:
1. Supervise classroom instruction. Such supervision shall be a cooperative process involving classroom teachers working within established district procedures.
2. Be responsible for meaningful in-service experiences for staff.
3. Assist new professional staff in adjusting to the school program, staff and students.
4. Organize and supervise the building’s substitute teacher program.
5. Provide direction for staff work load, student registration procedures, student and staff scheduling, course structure and content, allocation of space and allotment of time.
6. Organize and coordinate the work of all aides and secretarial help in the school office.
7. Supervise the development of student attendance accounting procedures and maintain adequate student records.
C. Curriculum
The high school principal shall:
1. Encourage professional staff to experiment and be innovative and make sure that instructional practices and curriculum changes are compatible with proven theories of learning that are consistent with the district’s philosophy.
2. Implement, coordinate and evaluate approaches that he/she and the professional staff decide are educationally sound.
D. Student Personnel
The high school principal shall:
1. Work closely with educational specialists and department heads to further the best interest of students under his/her supervision.
2. Continually evaluate and recommend changes in student reporting systems to promote a clearer understanding of student achievement.
3. Oversee and evaluate periodic testing of students in the building in the areas of physical and mental growth and abilities.
E. Public Relations
The high school principal shall:
1. Assist the district administrator in keeping the public informed on educational progress within the school.
2. Maintain positive public relations with the community and interpret the educational program to the public.
F. Other
The high school principal shall:
1. Serve as an active member of the administrative team and work cooperatively with all other administrators.
2. Assume all other responsibilities and perform all other duties as assigned by the district administrator for the benefit of the district.
