Reports to: Personnel team, Special Services Chair

Supervised by: Indirect supervision by the Special Education Director

Responsible to: EdVisions Co-op, MNCS Board of Directors

Classification: Non-certified

Terms of Employment: To be established by Personnel Team and Board of Directors annually.

Evaluation:    Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the special education team and reviewed by personnel team in accordance with board policy.

Compensation: Reviewed and established annually by the Personnel Team and Board of Directors

Job Summary:

The Special Education Paraprofessional supports the district instructional program for students and each student’s educational goals as established in the Special Education Individual Education Plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

(Other duties may be assigned)

  • Consults with the appropriate school personnel (Special Education Advisor) who are directly responsible for the implementation of the IEP for disabled students
  • Acts as a liaison with general education advisors for the purpose of ensuring the implementation of the established IEP of an assigned
  • Assists in the assessment of student progress on IEP goals for the purpose of special education progress reporting
  • Assists certified staff in the implementation of the IEP in either the general or special education setting
  • Provides thorough and timely reports, information, as
  • Assists with record keeping, copying and filing
  • Helps students monitor and follow individual work plans
  • Attends proposal team, with students with whom instruction is provided (secondary positions)
  • Documents behavior in accordance to district policy /IEP behavior plans
  • Attend professional development seminars as recommended by Special Education staff
  • Obtain current training in special education disability categories
  • Maintain crisis intervention training certification

MNCS Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and carry out yearly professional development plan
  • Follow direction of EdVisions Co-op and the MNCS Board of Directors
  • Assist staff in chaperoning field trips, and outside PE/recess/archery, as needed.
  • Serve on at least one additional site based committee
  • Attend staff meetings and Special Service Team

Qualification and requirements:

Education and experience:

2 year Degree preferred (AAS) or equivalent (60+ college credits) Three years outside experience

Para Professional Certification as required by the State of Minnesota

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, and general

Mathematical skills:

  • Ability to apply concepts such as basic arithmetic calculations, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations that are directly related to the duties of this
  • Ability to gather and graph/chart data related to student

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform duties in full compliance with special education district requirements and school board policy.
