Activities Director – West High School

ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR – WEST HIGH SCHOOL

The Mankato Area School District is seeking an Activities Director for West High School beginning July 1, 2019. The Activities Director is responsible for leading, planning, implementing and facilitating activities and events for Mankato West High School including athletics, fine arts and clubs.  This position leads the selection, supervision, evaluation and professional development of coaches and advisors.  Also works with others in the management and oversight of facility and equipment and provides oversight of homecoming festivities at Mankato West High School.   Application deadline: May 13, 2019.

License as K-12 Principal or willingness to acquire preferred.  Candidate must have strong communication skills, a desire to work with others, an understanding of the educational process and the ability to motivate and inspire others around the district strategic road map.

The contract year is 12 months and includes paid holidays and vacation.  A competitive compensation package is available.

DISTRICT INFORMATION:

The South Washington County School district includes four St. Paul suburbs of Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park and Woodbury as well as portions of three other communities.  Our district includes approximately 100,000 residents with 19,000 students enrolled in our schools. We have sixteen (K-5) elementary schools, four (6-8) middle schools, three (9-12) high schools and an alternative high school.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform instructional leadership and management of the educational program to maximize student learning under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent.   Manage, evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, goals and strategic plan of the school district.  This includes instructional programs, co-curricular activities, and student management systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations and emergency procedures.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as a building instructional leader.
  • Create and maintain a school culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and personal responsibility.
  • Develop and administer annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for all students.
  • Continually monitor student progress and outcomes.  Work with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and public relations with staff, students, parents and community members through all programs and activities.
  • Prepare and manage budget for the building, maintain accurate budgetary records as required by district policies and procedures.
  • Establish a high performing staff through effective hiring and evaluation systems.  Develop, coach, train, mentor and manage staff as appropriate.
  • Manage, evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, goals and strategic plan of the school district including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, school board policies and school district procedures.
  • Supervise the instructional programs of the school on a regular basis to ensure the use of effective instructional strategies, content and materials consistent with research on learning, student growth and development.
  • Work with staff to identify professional needs and plan, organize, and facilitate programs that improve staff effectiveness.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages staff and students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students.
  • Establish a professional rapport with students and staff. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serve as a role model.
  • Participate in professional development workshops, activities and seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
