Position Overview:

A 1.0 FTE Dean for Student Services position working with students, with and without disabilities, at Park Terrace Elementary School in grades K-4.  This position creates conditions for continuous improvement and innovation, fostering the commitment and creativity necessary to design engaging experiences to achieve results that exceed expectations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to…ensures all students are valued, inspired, and have a sense of belonging within Spring Lake Park Schools and Park Terrace Elementary;
coordinates all school special education services, including, but not limited to: scheduling staff (teachers and paras), ensuring Due Process compliance, effectively managing special education data, and collaborates on student transitions between settings to ensure they are smooth and appropriate;
acts as the building leader for staff, students and families when the principal is off-site;
leads the school’s Pit Crew team, including review of schoolwide behavior data, documenting behavioral interventions, making referrals to behavior specialists, and communicating with families;
assists with the design and implementation of professional learning at both the school and district levels;
actively collaborates with the Student Services Director and other Student Services Coordinators to ensure coherence and alignment in services between schools, and has direct responsibility for district-level projects, as assigned by the Director;
aligns the work of adults and creates the conditions for effective implementation of systems, to continuously improve personalized instruction and responsiveness, to meet our students’ unique and varied needs;
addresses barriers to learning through data analysis, critical thinking, and the use of group processing skills that are student centered and solution based; and
increases the connection, engagement, and support of our families and community.

The position includes case managing students, the writing of IEP’s, coordinating meetings, providing consultation to school staff and parents, working collaboratively with school staff in the general and special education environments at multiple schools in the District, and managing all aspects of Due Process procedures and mandates.

conduct formative assessment, and monitor progress, to guide instructional planning;
consult and partner with general and special education staff;
maintain student records of services provided, following Due Process best practices and compliance;
participate in IEP and evaluation summary meetings; and
perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience:

The candidate must be knowledgeable in types of behavioral and academic interventions appropriate for primary students and must be proficient in aspects of instruction including student and classroom management, assessment, instructional delivery, and intervention.  The candidate must also be committed to continuous improvement and professional learning.

General Responsibilities:

Works with the Early Intervention team providing services for students ages 3-5, using a primary provider model and Family Guided Routines Based Intervention.
Consults with teachers and parents regarding motor activities, self-help skills, special equipment or assistive devices, and sensory processing.
Maintains close communication with parents and the early intervention team concerning student performance.
Maintains accurate records, within Due Process compliance procedures, of students evaluated and served; including assessment results, progress and reports.
Participates in designated team meetings, Individual Education Plan meetings, and periodic reviews involved with assessment, programming, and evaluation decisions.
Schedules early intervention, evaluation and treatment appointments.
Screens and evaluates students who have been referred to early intervention using standardized and criterion referenced tools.

Knowledge and Skills:

Desired previous experience/knowledge includes the ability to…

communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form;
read and interpret documents such as professional assessments;
make decisions regarding eligibility for and dismissal from special services;
score and interpret score on standardized tests;
function as a member of a professional team; and
provide consultation services to  parents and at times teachers to effectively serve students.
