Sojourner Truth Academy (STA) is currently seeking hard-working, passionate, social- justice-oriented educators to join our team as our Lead English as a Second Language Teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. JOB DESCRIPTION Every STA teacher has the opportunity to join a team of motivated, mission-driven teammates who are committed to taking responsibility for their students’ learning. STA teachers are charged with providing a rigorous, fast-paced, and highly structured learning environment for their scholars. Our core subjects include literacy, writing, math, science, and social studies. Candidates that are selected for an interview will receive additional information regarding the specific roles and responsibilities. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead of ESL Programming *Assists site level administrators and/or the Director of Special Programs/Projects in supporting, training and coaching certified and classified personnel within the ESL program. *Develops/coordinates/determines the delivery/effectiveness of relevant in service/staff development activities for ESL staff. *Develops and/or coordinates effective and inclusive practices in instruction for English Language Learners. *Develops and/or coordinates the alignment and articulation of a content based ESL curriculum. *Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of program evaluation. *Participates in compliance, focused monitoring and technical assistance reviews. *Observes/provides peer assistance for colleagues. Participates in formalized peer review processes as a formative evaluator. *Serves on district-level committees and teams. *Assists with the selection and support of new ESL staff. *Develops/implements/revises program procedures and policies in accordance with local, state and federal laws and guidelines. *Develops data collection systems, monitors data collection and provides programmatic recommendations based upon results. *Maintains knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to English language learners through attendance at meetings, in-service programs, conferences and reading current literature. *Participates on school-based LEP Committees and School Improvement Teams as appropriate. *Coaches and advises ESL staff on appropriate methods of language instruction, lesson delivery and program design, scheduling, and service models. *Maintains district ESL website. *Performs other related duties as assigned. Position title: Math Enrichment Tutor Minnesota Math Corps Position Placement: Sojourner Truth Academy, 3820 Emerson Ave N, Minneapolis, 55412 You can help youth succeed in school by giving them the extra support they need to do math. Whether you’re looking to explore a new career in education, reenter the workforce or simply want to work with kids, you can make a direct impact by serving one year as a Minnesota Math Corps Math Enrichment Tutor Tutor at Sojourner Truth Academy. One full-time Math Enrichment Tutor position is available for the 2016-2017 school year! During your eleven-month AmeriCorps service, you’ll receive extensive training, support and general professional development opportunities. In addition, you will receive a modest living allowance of about $544 biweekly, an education award of $5,775, and other benefits if eligible. Most tutors will begin on the first day of the program year in August 2016. Strong preference is given to applicants who can begin on time. Math Enrichment Tutors work with pairs of fourth through eighth graders at the school. They follow a curriculum and conduct progress monitoring to ensure their students are proficient in algebra by eighth grade. They commit to daytime hours. As a tutor, you will be trained to implement proven research-based strategies, monitor progress and help children believe in themselves and succeedall while building your own skills and professional network. Math Corps has seen real results and is helping catch children up to their peers.
