Position Description School Psychologist assigned to one or more member districts of the Sherburne/Northern Wright Special Education Cooperative Duties and Responsibilities: *Understands the foundations, current educational definitions, impact of disabling conditions, resiliency strategies, and mental health disorders and their impact on children *Understands referral, assessment, planning and placement procedures specific to students at risk of academic and or social/emotional/behavior failure *Conducts individual assessment for intellectual, academic, and behavioral problems *Participates as a member of child find teams in buildings/districts assigned *Demonstrates effective communication skills with students, families, staff, administrators, and the community in order to provide a free and appropriate education to students with special needs *Meets due process procedures, time lines, and regulations for each student *Provides consultation and recommendations for special education academic, socialemotional, and behavioral modifications for students identifies as special education *Completes due process forms and procedures; including, but not limited to, evaluation reports, individual education plans, functional behavioral assessments, progress reporting and data collection *Maintains current knowledge of trends, theories and technologies pertaining to behavior, learning, and instruction in the area of special education *Assesses student progress to assist in determining the need for additional social, emotional or behavioral supports *Provides direction to special education staff in the development and implementation of educational and behavior management programs for students identified as special education *Obtains information needed to plan appropriate special education programs for student who are entering or returning to the local district through attendance at various meetings, including outside agencies *Assists IEP teams in determining appropriate placement *Assists teams in determining if a behavior is a manifestation of a student’s disability *Provides collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting school staff with suggestions and implementation of RtI, pre-referral intervention strategies, and providing recommendations and modifications to assist school staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting *Adheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education programs *Participates in activities that promote professional development
