Elementary Art Specialists

POSITION SUMMARY: The Elementary Art Specialist is a highly qualified teacher with significant skills in the areas of visual arts, media arts and arts integration. The Art Specialist’s primary responsibility is to provide direct instruction on the principles and elements of design by having kindergarten through grade 5 students create, present, reflect, and respond or critique to various types of visual and media arts. Conducting thorough planning and preparation, creating a positive, motivating a positive classroom environment, providing high quality daily instruction, maintaining accurate records, communicating with other staff and families, and growing professionally are all essential aspects of the position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties: 1.Use grade level Essential Learnings to integrate the visual and media arts in an interdisciplinary approach that guides instruction and assessment. 2.Provide direct instruction on the principles of art and elements of design with Kindergarten through fifth grade students 3.Uses culturally responsive instruction throughout instruction 4.Provide expanded learning opportunities for students to develop art skill sets and related practices to other content 5.Investigate and disseminate information on best practices for arts integration, sources of information on trends, research and applications related to arts use in the schools 6.Collaborate weekly with K 5 teachers, as well as site Shared Leadership team, to develop strategies and support services that include art instruction 7.Collaborate with the classroom teachers to ensure transfer of consistent, high quality implementation of art within the building 8.Collaborate with the other elementary art specialists by using the PLC structure to ensure consistent, high quality implementation across all elementary buildings 9.Provide formal and informal staff development/training related to both research and practice for classroom teachers and site administrators 10.Participate in professional development activities to continually increase competency in art instruction. 11.Coordinate, promote, and communicate all activities related to the Lakeville Youth Art Festival 12.Other duties as assigned by the principal and the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Attend monthly meetings with the Teaching and Learning Department 2.Participate in annual summer trainings and curriculum writing during the summer in 2016, 2017 and 2018. 3.Participate in statewide network meetings that supports art instruction 4.Provide assistance with grant writing as grant possibilities occur 5.Participate in project-based learning 6.Attend Quality Tools training the last week of June 2016.
