Job Summary
The Licensed School Nurse will provide for the special health needs of students at all grade levels. This position will maintain and monitor a district-wide system of first aid, emergency care, medication administration and health related procedures for all students. The LSN provides oversight, direction and training to school health assistants and other health office personnel.
Job Functions
Provide direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
Oversee distribution of medications to students according to school district policy.
Maintain accurate medical records to ensure compliance with State mandates, including immunizations, physical examinations, medical conditions, and related services documentation.
Provide training in matters of health practice to health assistant and substitutes.
Maintain accurate documentation of delegated health procedures on the Specialized Health Care Procedure Log.
Provide assistance and supervision of paraprofessionals providing services to students under the category of Activities of Daily Living and approves Third Party Billing forms.
Follow Minnesota Department of Health screening guidelines for vision and hearing.
Oversee computerized Health Record system for the district.
Complete quarterly Health Services Statistical Reports.
Participate in planning and implementation of 504 plans and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Ensure accident/incident reports for staff and students are filed appropriately and in a timely manner.
Participate in ongoing staff development specific to health services.
Other duties as assigned.
Emergency Care Supervisor – Temporary for the 2020-21 school year
7:00 – 4:00 PM Monday-Friday (8 hours per day; student contact days)
Job Summary
Plan and implement an emergency care program designed to support the physical and developmental needs of children. Work as a team leader to effectively supervise staff and engage children in activities.
Job Functions
Plan, develop and implement a developmentally appropriate program in accordance with district policies, district philosophy of the emergency care program and within state and federal guidelines and requirements.
Supervise and monitor students at all times; supervise indoor and outdoor activities and intervene as necessary.
Adhere to Federal, state and local requirements and guidance pertaining to emergency care programs.
Design and maintain a supportive, safe environment for children and staff.
Guide children’s behavior in a consistent manner, utilizing multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) including PBIS, Conscious Discipline, Zones of Regulation and Restorative Justice.
Facilitate the integration of students with special needs.
Communicate regularly with parents and/or guardians
Address concerns and student illness and/or injury, under the direction of the licensed school nurse.
Develop student behavior plans and log behavior when appropriate.
Maintain student data.
Administer medication to participants and maintain the required documentation as directed by the licensed school nurse.
Prepare, maintain, and distribute all participant attendance records.
Write, implement and post weekly lesson plans, snack, and staff weekly assignments.
Supervise and direct staff.
Ensure staff maintain daily schedules, activities, rosters, and accurate counts of children.
Adhere to Minnesota Department of Human Services staffing, reporting and documentation requirements.
Keep the Community Education Director informed of all issues and concerns regarding program and staff.
Provide orientation and training for new staff.
Contact and secure substitutes for emergency care program and provide orientation as needed.
Maintain staff attendance records; verify and process timesheets as needed.
Adhere to district policies and procedures.
Maintain confidentiality of student and staff data.
Coordinate and participate in staff meetings as needed.
Implement emergency procedures when needed, including CPR if needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position is full time and part of the teacher bargaining unit and based at the High School.
