High School Principal

Lewiston-Altura, ISD 857, is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as High School Principal. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a history of putting students first, excellent public relations skills, up to date on the use and implementation of technology in the classroom, a strong knowledge and understanding of best practices in curriculum and instruction and the building of the master schedule, to supervise and evaluate classroom teachers and to help guide professional learning communities and action research within the classrooms. The candidate will show evidence of being licensed as a high school principal in Minnesota, or provide evidence to be licensed before the start of the 2019-20 school year.

Lewiston-Altura School District; Demographics

Lewiston, Minnesota is located on Highway 14, approximately twelve miles from Winona, thirty miles from Rochester, and fourty miles from La Crosse, WI. Altura is located ten miles north of Lewiston and approximately five miles from Whitewater State Park which attracts visitors year round for hiking, fishing, and canoeing. The Lewiston-Altura School District is located entirely within Winona County and encompasses 160 square miles with a current enrollment of 750 students K-12. The 2010 census showed the school district population to be 4,310. The cities of Lewiston and Altura are included entirely within the school district which also serves children from Elba, Rollingstone, Stockton, Winona, Rushford, Peterson, St. Charles, and Utica. The high school serves approximately 400 students.

Additionally, a full time elementary/intermediate Principal, a full time superintendent and a seven member school board provide support. L-A High offers a variety of strong academic programs, which include, AP and advanced level course offerings, and Tech Prep Articulation Agreements in place with Higher Ed Partners, Project Lead the Way, Active CTE Programs-Agriculture, Business, Health Careers, Technology and Engineering. The school district has made a strong commitment to technology in the classrooms with high speed Internet access in all classrooms, computer labs and SMART Boards in the all three schools, and the use of tablet computers and laptops are widespread throughout the three buildings. Wireless infrastructure was installed throughout the district, supporting a wireless mobile environment. Student Activities are also important at Lewiston-Altura Schools. Under the direction of the Superintendent and in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer, the Chief Finance & Operations Officer will lead the operations directors and business office staff driven by the vision, mission, values and goals and identified within the strategic plan .

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership in implementation of all laws, regulations, policies, procedures and practices related to school district finance and operations;
  • Organize, prepare and monitor long-range financial plans, including annual and multi-year operating and capital budgets;
  • Monitor the leadership and administration of personnel functions, such as recruitment and hiring, indoctrination and training, employee benefits, labor relations and the employee experience;
  • Monitor the leadership and administration of planning, construction, maintenance and care of facilities (buildings, grounds, equipment) and other physical resources of the district;
  • Monitor the leadership and administration of technology support for the instructional and support functions of the district;
  • Monitor the leadership and administration of transportation services to assure safe, reliable and cost effectiveness;
  • Monitor the leadership and administration of the national school lunch program;
  • Plan, organize, prepare and monitor accounting, auditing, financial reporting, cash, investments and debt;
  • Plan, organize and monitor the acquisition and management of property, materials, equipment and services.
  • Plan, organize and monitor implementation and updates to management information systems;
  • Plan, organize and monitor risk management and safety programs.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to assure the smooth and effective operation of the district.

Full-time (1.0 FTE) Long-Term Substitute Secondary Language Arts Teacher – High School

Full-time (1.0 FTE) Long-term Substitute Secondary Grade 9 & 10 Language Arts Teacher at Faribault High School.  Performs professional work providing a broad range of teaching services within our core Language Arts department, assisting students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning in accordance with each student’s ability, using a variety of teaching and learning methods at various levels to a targeted audience.  This position will be for second semester beginning on January 21, 2019 through June 3, 2019.  Classes taught will be English 9 and English 10.
