Position Dates:  ASAP
FTE/Hours:  1.0 FTE
Responsible To:  Building Principals; Special Education Director/Supervisor

Major Job Functions; Specific Tasks/Required Knowledge, Ability and Skills:  See attachment.
Qualifications: Valid State of Minnesota License in Special Education

Salary Range: $53,432 – $108,172 for a 184 day contract @ a 1.0 FTE  (Salary will be prorated based on contract days in assignment, education and experience)
Compensation and Yearly Duration of Employment:  Compensation will be determined by District 112 and the Chaska Education Association (CEA).

Special Education Paraprofessional

Job Description:  Special Education Paraprofessional position.  This position will be for 7 hours per day 5 days per week to provide support and supervision of level III special needs students with developmental cognitive disabilities at Faribault Middle School.  Approximate rate of pay starts at $21.25.  The position commences immediately upon hire.

Qualifications:    One of the following required:  (1) Two year Associate of Arts degree; OR (2) The equivalent of 60 semester credits OR (3) A portfolio demonstrating MN Core Competencies for Paraprofessionals OR (4) A passing score on the MN Para Pro Test.  High School Diploma required.  Experience working with students with special needs.  Ability and willingness to take direction from the case manager.  Trained or willingness to be trained in strategies such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), visual schedules, social stories, and positive behavior supports.  Ability to implement the strategies identified above.  Ability to collect and report data as directed by the case manager.  Trained or willing to be trained in certain medical procedures.  Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, assist with personal care (e.g., toileting, lifting, diapering, feeding, motor activities, medicating) or one-on-one care if necessary and work with bodily fluids.

This position will involve substituting in the health office when needed under supervision of the licensed school nurse, to assist in paraprofessional activities related to health office services, to work within the framework of school laws, District policy, and first aid/CPR standards, and to do related work as required. Must have ability to take responsibility for supervising students, speak clearly and distinctly, demonstrate patience, warmth and liking for children, perform routine record keeping duties, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, render preliminary first aid steps, learn and perform specialized health procedures, and maintain District-approved First Aid and CPR Certificates.

K-2nd – Special Education Teacher

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students’ specific needs; providing a safeand optimal learning environment.

Licensed special educators are preferred; however, the district will work with interested parties to obtain licensure requirements if necessary.

Under the direct supervision of the Community Education directory to provide clerical, secretarial, and administrative assistance to school administrators at a school site or department, conveying information regarding school functions and procedures; and supporting the broad array of services provided to students, parents, instructional and support employees. This position will be scheduled for Mondays through Thursdays, 4:15-8:15 p.m., 12 months of the year.
