Special Education Paraprofessional

Job Description:       Special Education Paraprofessional position.  This position will be for 7 hours per day, 5 days per week to provide support and supervision of level III special needs students with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities at Lincoln Elementary School.  Approximate rate of pay starts at $21.25.  The position commences immediately upon hire.

Qualifications:             One of the following required:  (1) Two year Associate of Arts degree; OR (2) The equivalent of 60 semester credits OR (3) A portfolio demonstrating MN Core Competencies for Paraprofessionals OR (4) A passing score on the MN Para Pro Test.  High School Diploma required.  Experience working with students with special needs.  Ability and willingness to take direction from the case manager.  Trained or willingness to be trained in strategies such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), visual schedules, social stories, and positive behavior supports.  Ability to implement the strategies identified above.  Ability to collect and report data as directed by the case manager.  Trained or willing to be trained in certain medical procedures.  Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, assist with personal care (e.g., toileting, lifting, diapering, feeding, motor activities, medicating) or one-on-one care if necessary and work with bodily fluids.

This position will involve substituting in the health office when needed under supervision of the licensed school nurse, to assist in paraprofessional activities related to health office services, to work within the framework of school laws, District policy, and first aid/CPR standards, and to do related work as required. Must have ability to take responsibility for supervising students, speak clearly and distinctly, demonstrate patience, warmth and liking for children, perform routine record keeping duties, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, render preliminary first aid steps, learn and perform specialized health procedures, and maintain District-approved First Aid and CPR Certificates.

Class II Paraprofessional 2025-2026 School Year

Job Summary:

Under the direction of licensed special education teacher and/or related services staff, the Special Education Paraprofessional assists one or more students in accomplishing activities of daily living; instrumental activities of daily living, health related functions; redirection and intervention of behavior; and other tasks as are identified within assigned students’ IEPs. Special Education Paraprofessionals may be assigned to work with students who have special healthcare/medical needs, have behavior intervention plans or require other forms of specialized care.  Assists teachers by working with individual students or small groups, and performing related work as assigned.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Teacher and the general direction of the building Principal.

Reports To:  Building Principal

Job Summary:
The Administrative Dean is responsible for providing assistance to the Principal in the general administration and management of the building.  The Administrative Dean is the primary administrator and coordinator of the day to day student management and attendance matters.  The Administrative Dean will also assist the principal in providing instructional leadership and staff development opportunities for staff and in hiring and supervising staff.

Education/Certification Requirements:  A valid, K-12 Principal license issued through PELSB is required.
Experience Requirements: Exemplary teaching and/or administrative experience is required. Middle school teaching experience preferred.

Benefits:  As defined by the parameters of the Principals’ Association Master Agreement, an annual amount of $11,500 will be available for the Administrative Dean to distribute as he/she designates among benefits (health insurance, dental insurance). The Administrative Dean must enroll in at least single health coverage.

Directs staff to complete preparation of main and alternate line(s) menu items for the customer service line, satellite and special events, as needed.
