School Counselor – Pipestone Area Elementary

JOB DESCRIPTION: Pipestone Area Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and student-focused School Counselor to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a counseling-related field.
Holds or is eligible to obtain a Minnesota teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement.
Expertise in counseling methodologies and educational best practices.
Strong data analysis and student progress monitoring skills.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding student counseling services.
High-level organizational and communication skills.
Ability to effectively engage with students, parents, and staff.
Willingness to participate in Pipestone Area Schools’ culture and community.
Collaborative mindset with a strong commitment to teamwork.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead a comprehensive counseling program that addresses students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.
Develop and deliver high-quality lessons and interventions aligned with district goals.
Conduct individual and small-group counseling to support student well-being.
Assess and monitor students’ social-emotional development and mental health needs.
Work closely with staff to implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
Partner with teachers, administrators, and parents to create student success plans.
Actively participate in mentoring, instructional coaching, and professional development to strengthen counseling curriculum and services.
Maintain accurate records, documentation, and data tracking.
Support school-wide initiatives, including Character Education and social awareness programs.
Assist the Principal with student supervision and school-wide support.
Communicate effectively to build strong relationships with students and families.
Facilitating peer relationships, social skills development, and conflict resolution.
SUPERVISION
Reports to the building principal.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

COMPENSATION
Certified staff are compensated according to the current master agreement. Salary range is $47,000- $80,000 and benefits include health/health saving account contribution, life insurance, Earned Safe and Sick Time (ESST) leave days and 403B match. Voluntary benefits offered at employees cost are dental, vision, supplemental life, Long-term disability, legal shield, and AFLAC.

Class II Secretary

Under the direct supervision of the principal or other administrator to provide clerical, secretarial, and administrative assistance to school administrators at a school site or department, conveying information regarding school functions and procedures; and supporting the broad array of services provided to students, parents, instructional and support employees. This position also includes assisting the School Nurse in the Health Office during part of each day with record keeping and basic medical care. Additional training will be provided by the School Nurse.

Under the direction of the Building Principal and/or the guidance of the Assistant Principal, the Licensed Teacher represents a broad grouping of diverse and different instructional positions responsible for developing lesson plans and presenting district curriculum in assigned instructional subjects; delivering and instructing students in lesson plans and instructional material; evaluating and assessing student progress against instructional outcomes and objectives.  Licensed Teachers also participate and collaborate with other instructional professionals, administrators, parents, counselors, and other district personnel concerning student needs, issues and district learning initiatives, curriculum and building issues.
