General Purpose of Job:

  • To inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by planning and directing the instructional programming and managing the operational and personnel requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Indicators of Strategic Leadership Practice:

  • Articulates a vision and develops implementation strategies for change that results in measurable achievement gains for all students and closes the achievement gap.
  • Fosters a shared commitment to high expectations for student achievement, high standards of teaching and learning, and a culturally competent environment where diversity is valued.
  • Builds a strong and positive sense of community in the school by honoring the important roles of race and culture, its traditions, artifacts, symbols, values, and norms.

Indicators of Instructional Leadership Practice:

  • Provides the structure and opportunity for the development, alignment, implementation, and evaluation of relevant and rigorous curricula tied to state academic and college and career readiness standards.
  • Collaborates with teachers to examine student and school data to measure student learning and growth, identify achievement gaps, and develop strategic interventions that improve learning and close identified gaps.
  • Facilitates reflective practice, inquiry, and action research to identify and monitor the impact of interventions and determine high-yield instructional strategies that improve student learning.

Indicators of Performance Management Practice:

  • Provides timely, appropriate, quality professional development and facilitates learning teams that gather information, analyze data, examine issues, and develop new approaches to improve teaching and learning.
  • Routinely observes instruction and provides ongoing feedback and coaching to teachers and other staff in a fair and equitable manner in order to support professional growth.
  • Provides effective and timely supervision and evaluation aligned with local district goals, state regulations, and contract provisions and uses these processes to facilitate development, remediation, and/or removal of underperforming staff members.

Indicators of Professional and Interpersonal Relationship Skills Practice:

  • Models appropriate personal, professional, and ethical behavior that is respectful and fair, enhances the image of the school and the profession, and inspires others to higher levels of leadership and performance.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and facilitates groups effectively.
    Welcomes and honors families and stakeholders by engaging them in a meaningful dialogue regarding student learning, the work of the school, and its needs and accomplishments.

Indicators of Resource Management Skills Practice:

  • Distributes leadership responsibilities, shares decision making, and supervises daily ongoing management structures and practices to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Maintains a safe environment by addressing real and potential challenges to the physical and emotional safety and security of students and staff that interfere with teaching and learning.
  • Develops and implements a budget process that manages fiscal expenditures consistent with district and school goals, policies, and available resources that is focused on results in improved student achievement.

Additional duties/responsibilities:

Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.

Qualifications for the position:

Must hold or be eligible for a license as a Secondary School Principal in Minnesota
Experience as an assistant principal or in another school leadership capacity

Dean of Students

Full-time High School Level Dean of Students position is available at Forest Lake Senior High, beginning the 2020-21 school year.
Candidate needs the ability to manage all aspects of a caseload of students as part of a dynamic Student Services team, which includes: student scheduling, IEP meetings, 504 coordination, event supervision, testing coordination, behavior issues, etc.  This position includes a  15 days extended contract, and a stipend for additional duties.

Job Summary:
Act as instructional and supervisor leader for the school in absence of the principal.  Assist in supervision of all employees, and manage operations of the school to ensure implementation of curriculum and educational standards according to State law and District policy.

Essential job functions include the following:
– Serve as the chief administrative officer of the building in the absence of the principal.

– Assist the principal in the operation of the school, giving direction and supervision to the instructional program, implementing the policies of the School Board, and carrying out the directives of the Superintendent of Schools.

– Share with the principal the organization, general supervision, and evaluation of the total certified and non-certified staff.

– Administer and enforce the discipline and student control policies set forth by the School board which may include detention, suspension, and parent contact.

– Supervise the attendance procedure and records.

– Maintain awareness of the trends, changes, and concerns relating to education on the national, state, and local levels that will affect the school.

– Develop a schedule of staff supervision responsibility.

– Develop a master schedule for teachers which includes their teaching assignments and teaching stations.

– Assist the principal in the hiring of new personnel.

– Secure and assign staff to supervise various activities during both the regular and extended school day.

– Supervise the grounds and plant to ensure the maximum safety and well being of the student body.

– Assist the principal in conducting staff and in-service meetings.

– Be involved, where appropriate, in parent/student and student/teacher conferences.

– Respond to calls and concerns expressed by parents relative to staff members.

– Supervise student activities, both curricular and extra-curricular.

– Cooperate with district and bus company personnel organizing and supervising the bus transportation of students.

– Distribute and maintain an accurate record of all keys issued to school personnel.

– Assist the principal in planning orientation and opening workshop activities.

– Work cooperatively with law enforcement and social agencies.

– Revise teacher student handbooks annually.

– Supervise the collection of student financial obligations.

Principal Elementary

Job Summary:
Is the instructional and supervisor leader for the school.  Supervises all employees to ensure implementation of curriculum and educational standards according to State law and District policy.

–  Supervises the schools education program.

– Facilitate the implementation and observance of all School Board policies and regulations and central administration directives.

– Facilitate the implementation and observance of all State and Federal laws and regulations required of a special education setting.

– Supervises all staff assigned to the school.

– Assumes primary responsibility in personnel planning, recruiting, hiring, developing, assigning and evaluating school staff.

– Maintain appropriate standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary and according to due process.

– Supervise the schools relationships with other school districts, counties, and other human service agencies that are worked with on a continuing basis.

– Supervise the preparation of all school reports for the DSC, including the maintenance of accurate records on attendance, health and progress of students, and all information required for tuition billing and State reimbursement.

– Act as liaison between the school and the community.

– Assist in the preparation of the schools budget and supervise the spending process.

– Monitor and make adjustments in the schools population depending upon severity of presenting student disturbances, revenue requirements and space.

– Administer the collective bargaining contracts of the school staff.

Controller (Finance Department)

Position Summary:
Performs complex professional work supervising the payroll and finance department staff and operations, managing financial records, investments and grants, preparing for and supervising the completion of district financial audits, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations. Continuous supervision is exercised over Accounts Payable Clerk, Payroll Clerk and Accountant.

Education and /or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field and extensive experience in a setting comparable to White Bear Lake Area Schools. Master’s degree preferred.  CPA preferred.

Special Education Teacher (DCD or ABS)-High School
