Position: Art Teacher – 9th-12th

North Lakes Academy is seeking an enthusiastic art teacher responsible for nurturing social-emotional and academic growth in their classroom by planning and implementing rigorous, student-centered daily lessons to develop students’ interest, abilities, talents and skills for artistic expression and creativity in the visual arts, as well as aesthetic understanding and appreciation.

As a part of the teacher-leadership team, you will work directly with directors and colleagues to create an ambitious and engaging experience for art students. You’ll oversee the work of curriculum design, classroom management, and collaboration to engineer an effective, scalable, and reliable experience across our K-12 school platform and programs.

 

Responsibilities and Experience

Help lead the design of the Upper School art experience
Architect and guide new applications and project development
Help guide curriculum and course development pace and rhythm in collaboration with department and school teams
Establish and maintain program standards

Valid MN teaching license in Art
AP/CIS experience preferred
Enthusiastic optimist: thinks in terms of do’s rather than don’ts

Program Coordinator

Program Coordinator for SPECTRUM
Location: Caledonia, MN

Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) provides special education services to 13 School Districts and 2 Charter Schools within five counties of southeast Minnesota: Fillmore, Houston, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona. HVED also has two (2) Setting IV Behavior Programs, Students Achieving Integrated Services (SAIL) and Attitude, Character, Heart, Integrity, Efforts, Values + Excellence (ACHIEVE), that provide programming for students in grades K-12 with challenging behaviors currently receiving special education services.  Along with the SAIL programs, HVED provides programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (SPECTRUM). Our SPECTRUM program is located in Caledonia. HVED is committed to providing the best services to staff, students, and member districts in southeast Minnesota. Position:
Hiawatha Valley Education District is seeking a talented, self-motivated Program Coordinator. This position will serve SPECTRUM (Setting IV Autism) Program in Caledonia, MN.  This position will work 200 days.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of educational curriculum, individualization of instruction, and analytic teaching approaches
Knowledge of and experience working ASD students
Skill in interpreting Special Education needs to administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals
Demonstrate leadership skills
Knowledgeable in conducting activities directed toward group planning with outcomes of goals and/or action plans
Ability to take direction and work efficiently and effectively as part of a learning team

Competencies, the successful candidate must possess:

Teamwork: work in team decision-making situations
Communication: strong written and verbal communication skills
Problem-solve: ability to problem-solve and resolve issues effectively and efficiently
Leadership: ability to lead teams and coordinate with others, such as Special Education Leaders, Administration, and teachers

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

Reports to the Program Director of Hiawatha Valley Education District
Works with the school personnel to ensure appropriate educational programing
Provide consultation on strategies to assist learners
Assists with monthly monitoring of budgets.
Develop and maintain program monitoring and evaluation instruments and procedures to ensure appropriateness of instruction
Complete special education state forms for the program.

Employment Start Date:

Immediate opening, or optional start of August 2021

Travel Requirements:

Travel among the HVED programs, member districts and HVED District Office as needed.

Working Conditions:

Office, lifting, sitting, standing, pushing, pulling, keyboarding, etc.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to tolerate sudden jarring movement.
Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may require wearing of personal protective equipment.
Locations are generally moderately noisy.

Salary/Benefits:

Competitive salary and benefits package.  Based on years of experience and credentials.
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:
This Special Education Teacher position is part of Owatonna High School’s Discovery program. Discovery classrooms provide trauma-responsive specialized programming and instruction for students who require support with dysregulation and displays that impact learning. Discovery teachers work closely within a team structure which includes paraprofessionals, behavior interventionists, school social workers, related service providers, and administration. Students also access general education courses as appropriate to their educational plan; the Discovery teacher plans jointly with the general education teacher to provide the accommodations and modifications necessary in order for the student to access and make progress within the general education curriculum.

All members of the Discovery program are highly trained and supported; they utilize Life Space Crisis Intervention strategies and track individual student data through the Performance Tracking System. Weekly team meetings and joint planning provide clarity and consistency for both staff and students.
