3. Principal Supervision and Development
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate school principals, providing guidance on leadership development, staff management, and school operations.
Identify and address professional development needs of school leaders, ensuring they have the resources and training to meet district expectations.
Facilitate regular meetings and professional learning opportunities for principals to collaborate and address common challenges.
4. Operational Efficiency and Resource Management
Work with district departments, including Human Resources, Finance, and Facilities, to ensure that schools in the region are efficiently managed and properly resourced.
Oversee the implementation of district policies and procedures in areas such as budgeting, staffing, and facilities management within the assigned schools.
Address operational challenges, such as school safety, student transportation, and technology needs, in coordination with central office departments.
5. Stakeholder and Community Engagement
Serve as a point of contact for school communities, including parents, community organizations, and local government officials.
Foster positive relationships between schools and their communities, ensuring that community concerns are addressed and that families feel supported.
Communicate district policies, goals, and achievements to stakeholders and represent the district at community events as needed.
6. Compliance and Policy Implementation
Ensure that all schools are in compliance with district policies, state and federal regulations, and legal requirements.
Monitor the implementation of district-wide initiatives, such as student support programs, safety protocols, and special education services.
Work with principals to address issues related to student discipline, attendance, and school climate in alignment with district policies.
7. Crisis Management and Conflict Resolution
Assist in handling school-level crises and emergencies, including safety concerns, conflicts, and community issues.
Support school leaders in resolving conflicts with staff, students, or parents, using mediation and problem-solving strategies.
Act as a representative of the district in regional crises, working closely with the Superintendent and other district leaders as needed.

Executive Director of Student Support Services

The Executive Director of Student Support Services leads the district’s efforts in providing high-quality support services to students, ensuring that their academic, emotional, social, and health needs are met. This position oversees the planning, coordination, and evaluation of services such as special education, school counseling, health and wellness programs, behavioral interventions, and other initiatives that support student success. The Executive Director works collaboratively with district and school administrators, parents, and community partners to create inclusive and equitable learning environments for all students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Leadership and Program Oversight
Lead and manage district-wide student support services, including special education, counseling, nursing, mental health services, behavioral interventions, and related programs.
Ensure that all programs align with district goals, state and federal regulations, and best practices in student support.
Collaborate with school administrators and staff to implement and monitor support services at the school level.
2. Special Education Management
Oversee the district’s special education programs, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Ensure that individualized education programs (IEPs) are effectively developed and implemented for students with disabilities.
Provide leadership and support for special education staff, including teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
3. Student Mental Health and Wellness
Develop and implement programs that promote student mental health and emotional well-being.
Supervise school counseling and mental health professionals to ensure students have access to appropriate services, including crisis intervention, mental health counseling, and social-emotional learning programs.
Work with community health agencies and partners to expand resources and services for students.
4. Health Services and School Nursing
Oversee the district’s health services programs, including school nursing and wellness education.
Ensure compliance with state health regulations and district policies related to student health, immunizations, and wellness.
Develop and implement health promotion initiatives and preventive health measures for students and staff.
5.  Equity and Access
Ensure that student support services are delivered equitably across the district and meet the needs of all students, regardless of background or ability.
Promote inclusion, diversity, and culturally responsive practices within all support services.
Lead efforts to identify and address disparities in access to support services, particularly for marginalized or underserved student populations.
6.  Collaboration with Stakeholders
Build strong relationships with parents, guardians, community organizations, and other external partners to enhance student support services.
Serve as the district’s primary point of contact for student support services, communicating with stakeholders about services, programs, and policies.
Provide training and professional development for school staff to ensure they are equipped to meet the diverse needs of students.
7. Data-Driven Decision Making
Collect and analyze data on student outcomes, service utilization, and program effectiveness to inform decisions and drive continuous improvement.
Monitor key performance indicators related to student well-being, behavior, academic support, and other critical areas.
Report regularly to the Superintendent and School Board on the effectiveness of student support services and recommend improvements.
8. Crisis and Emergency Management

Executive Director/Director of Special Education

The Executive Director/Director of Special Education serves as the Chief Administrator for the Cooperative and as the licensed Director of Special Education for the Member Districts.  Oversight of operations includes the supervision and management of staff, resources and property along with oversight of the BRIC annual budget and authorization of daily expenditures. The BRIC Director reports to the BRIC Executive Committee which is comprised of the 11 Superintendents of the Member Districts.  The BRIC employs on average 85 plus special education and related services personnel including Teacher Specialists, School Psychologists, Low-Incidence Specialists, Speech/Language Clinicians, Paraprofessionals and Occupational and Physical Therapists.

Interested applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid license as a Director of Special Education in Minnesota.  Applicants must also be eligible for licensure as a Superintendent of Schools.  Demonstrated 3 to 5 years of successful experience in special education and administration.  MA/MS in special education and Ed.S. in educational administration required.  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing as well as organizational and decision-making skills for success.

The BRIC Executive Director/Director of Special Education is a 12-month 260-day contract. The BRIC offers a competitive compensation package; salary range of $140,000 to $150,000 paid vacation days, paid holidays, sick leave, a tax shelter annuity plan, a severance plan and quality supervision, technology support and resources for success.  Targeted start date is July 1, 2025.
