Position Summary:
Develop, implement and regularly evaluate the District’s internal and external communications strategies, marketing and public relations efforts, ensuring that communication is cohesive, consistent and effective in supporting the District’s mission. Maintain two-way communication with stakeholders in order to promote a positive District reputation and image, and advise the Superintendent, School Board and District administrators on matters affecting community relations.

Strong information technology skills to design and publish web content, presentations, documents and other multi-media publications. Highly developed program design, planning and implementation skills. Ability to work successfully under pressure and handle multiple and changing priorities and requests from a wide variety of sources, with attention to detail and deadlines. Knowledge of established policies, protocols and procedures and the ability to ensure compliance with same. Consistent and reliable attendance.
Responsibilities: Performs intermediate level clerical, typing and/or word processing work of moderate complexity and variety; serves as an interpreter; and performs other related duties as assigned. The listed examples may not include all the duties performed by all positions in this class.
*Types and/or word processes letters, narrative and statistical reports, schedules, lists, forms, cards, labels, envelopes and other related materials according to general guidelines.
*Prepares, types and/or word processes routine correspondence according to well-established guidelines and procedures.
*Transcribes memoranda, letters, reports and other materials from dictaphone recordings.
*Answers telephone and receives visitors; determines nature of business, directs individuals to appropriate staff, or supplies information where a working knowledge of the operation is necessary.
*Processes routine complaints or inquiries by explanation of office procedures, verification of records, correction of records, or referral to higher authority. *Compiles and maintains complex or involved files, records, schedules, and statistics.
*Compiles and maintains simple accounting and financial records where no technical bookkeeping knowledge is required; checks and reconciles data.
*Prepares and types pay vouchers, requisitions, purchase orders and other related materials.
*Checks and prepares payroll time sheets, employee hours worked, overtime, and related forms and records.
*Operates office equipment such as typewriter, copy machine, adding machine, postage machine, calculator, dictaphone, and telephone system. *Operates a computer for data entry, file maintenance, and information gathering and/or retrieval.
*Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
Responsibilities: A special education teacher will work in one of several special education licensure areas. The duties or each of these positions may vary. The essential functions of these positions include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties.
*Provide instruction in the core curriculum and special education area(s) for which employed; make appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies. *Develop and implement innovative methods for providing instruction to special education students.
*Maintain a suitable instructional environment for special education students according to their needs; ensure that equipment is modified and materials adapted as necessary.
*Participate with other special education staff as appropriate to evaluate the special education needs of a student and to develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to meet the student’s needs; implement these plans in accordance with special education state and federal legal requirements and district practice.
*Maintain student records and ensure that they are in compliance with due process requirements.
*Support the Minnesota Graduation Standards; implement the goals and objectives of the District and the school and/or program to which assigned.
*Evaluate special education student performance in accordance with the system used by the school and/or District; promote student achievement; ensure that progress is being made toward IEP goals and objectives; make related reports to parents, the principal and/or Special Education administration as prescribed or authorized.
*Maintain contact and communications with parents of special education students and work with them in the academic development of the student and to meet the objectives of the IEP or IFSP; participate in parent teacher conferences.
*Perform classroom management duties; enforce rules governing the conduct of students; take appropriate disciplinary action with students when necessary.
*Provide indirect services to special education students in the special education category for which employed.
*Develop and present in-service training relating to disabilities and the educational needs of students in the special education category for which employed.
*Continue to seek professional growth and development in the curriculum area(s) for which employed; attend professional development required by the District. *Contribute to the District’s Strong Schools, Strong Communities efforts by partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment and sustainability of resources.

1.0 FTE Student Support Specialist @ McGuire Middle School POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Support Specialist enhances student learning by providing strategic services to identify and address social-emotional-behavioral issues that interfere with school success. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties: Intervention Services *Provide support to students with organizational, work completion and/or self-advocacy needs *Serve as a member of the building student assistant team; provide building staff with social-emotional-mental health resources and instructional strategies to support quality pre-referral interventions *Serve as a building resource for mental health; help others to recognize early warning signs and overt indicators of student distress or abuse and to take appropriate referral, intervention or reporting action *Consult with building staff regarding student specific social-emotional-mental health issues *Provide a positive, safe environment in which students are encouraged to actively engage in their learning *Serve as a resource and support for skills, grief and chemical health groups and implement classroom interventions in areas of concern for the students *Provide crisis intervention and support to students, parents and staff Collaboration *Assist in risk assessments of students with discipline and attendance issues *Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/guardians; communicate with families about available mental health services and how to access the services *Serve as a liaison with community agencies and resources; assist with referrals as necessary *Locate and mobilize community resources to support students and families *Serve as contact person for students returning to school from hospitalization for or treatment of mental health and/or chemical health issues *Collaborate regularly with district chemical health specialist Professional Development *Stay current with best practices in social-emotional-behavioral evaluation and intervention *Conduct staff development activities on topics related to social-emotional-mental health issues *Act in a professional and ethical manner and adhere at all times to the professional Code of Ethics
