DEPARTMENT: Cabinet

Job Summary:

  • Provide department vision and leadership to a team of administrators, teachers, and clerical support staff to ensure all aspects of curriculum and instruction are implemented with the student in mind.
  • Support administrators, teachers, and staff in all RPS sites as they work to achieve site, department, and district goals.
  • Work collaboratively with community leaders, employers, higher education and parents to develop the World’s Best Work Force plan,and ensure high quality learning opportunities for students. This includes facilitation of the Community Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Committee (CCIAC).
  • Work collaboratively with the Superintendent, cabinet members, and members of the School Board to use data to drive decisions regarding academic programming, staffing, and resources.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive district professional development plan that supports the needs of the staff, and aligns with the vision, mission and goals of RPS, as well as state and federal requirements.
  • Provide support and leadership to specialized programs in RPS including Career and Technical Center at Heintz (CTECH), Quarry Hill, and Mayo Planetarium.
  • Articulate a K-12 sequence of learning expectations in all curriculum area.
  • Must be well versed in relevant test/assessment data, research trends, and state requirements. Solicits recommendations of teaching staff and administration, and input from students, graduates, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure the district testing procedures are in consistent compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Develop and oversee a systematic plan of curricular program evaluation.
  • Facilitate the integration of instructional technology in all curricular areas.
  • Develop, implement, and interpret local and Minnesota State
  • Department of Education policies and regulations, and ensure effective communication to the School Board and to the instructional staff as it relates to implementation of Every Student Succeeds Act and MN Academic standards.
  • Coordinate curriculum and instructional partnerships with community organizations including local higher education institutions.
  • Monitor and manage appropriate state/federal program budgets including, but not limited to, Tech Prep and Perkins, and Achievement and Integration Revenue.
  • Manage the selection of instructional materials (texts, references, software, audio visuals).
  • Make decisions and recommendations including hiring, discipline, staff development, performance appraisal, training and related activities of reports.
  • Direct the preparation and administration of program budgets by compiling data and developing budget documents and reports.
  • Monitor and support school-based decisions and programs.
  • Represent the school District as a community liaison in working with various groups, including the media when necessary.
  • Perform related duties as apparent or assigned by the Superintendent.
