Work closely with kindergarten teachers, Community Education, and family and center-based child care. (85% time) Plan and implement Early Childhood (birth to age 5) programming, working with parents in offering an age-appropriate stimulating environment for children. (15% time) Schedule: 40 hours/week during the school year, mostly week days with some weekend and evening hours required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to engage students in classroom activities and instruction motivating them to be successful. Knowledge of student’s emotional and cognitive learning development, knowledge of methodology in effective teaching, knowledge of curriculum development and selection of appropriate instructional materials. Excellent skills in developing and presenting ideas effectively both verbally and in written form. Advocating, communicating and building professional relationships with students, parents/guardians, co-workers and administration is a critical skill used in our program. Additional abilities include: trustworthy, self-starter, collaborative, flexible, creative and innovative. Due to the program small size, the ability to teach in licensure areas beyond English is a definite plus. Description of Duties The Cambridge Alternative Program is a Year-Round Program in the Cambridge-Isanti School District. Cambridge-Isanti district students and surrounding school districts may participate in our program. During the traditional school year calendar responsibilities include teaching in a Junior High (6-9) and a High School (10-12) to students meeting state graduation incentive requirements to participate in our school. Responsibilities include review of curriculum and instruction to meet the Minnesota State Standards in English, effective differentiated English using direct instruction along with innovative approaches in learning and support students/families in an advisory classroom. Managing a high expectation classroom by providing a safe and nurturing environment were students are inspired to grow academically and personally by doing their best in our school. Students come to our program at various English levels. Our program is located in the District Educational Center building. Typically, class sizes run between 15-22 students.
