Behavior Services Coordinator

Position Location: Serving North Branch Area Public Schools and Rush City Public Schools

Position Purpose:
The Behavior Services Coordinator position assists SCRED member districts in implementing a continuum of social and behavior supports, specifically for students requiring intensive, highly individualized intervention. This position provides collaboration and consultation on specific student cases and overall programming, creates and facilitates high-quality professional learning opportunities for member district staff, and assists in the coordination of service delivery to ensure students are receiving effective social skills and behavior skills instruction designed to meet their needs in their least restrictive environment.

Essential Duties:

  • Collaboration & Consultation
    • Provide on-site coaching and support for the implementation of evidence-based multi-layered instructional practices within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework
    • Guide staff in the creation of special education evaluation plans that equip teams to identify students with intensive emotional or behavioral needs
    • Support staff in the development of IEPs that are designed to meet the unique social and behavioral needs of students
    • Consult with special education staff regarding students who are not responding to behavior skill interventions
    • Promote collaboration between general education and special education staff regarding accommodations and modifications that may help students to reach their IEP goals and access the general curriculum
    • Provide expertise as part of IEP teams for students with significant and unique Behavioral related needs
    • Equip teams to engage in problem-solving processes that support district placement decisions for students transitioning to and from Federal Setting IV programs in order to ensure that students remain in their least restrictive environment
    • Assist in developing/coordinating student reintegration plans, including Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), in order to increase the likelihood that transitioning students will function effectively in the mainstream school setting
    • Collaborate and provide consultation services regarding assistive technology, accessibility, and secondary transition
  • Professional Learning
    • Engage in professional learning aligned with SCRED goals and district-specific needs to inform SCRED professional learning opportunities related to behavioral programming
    • Develop professional learning plans in collaboration with the SCRED Services Coordination Team to ensure alignment with SCRED goals and messaging across service areas
    • Facilitate professional learning using effective adult learning strategies on a variety of behavior-related topics, including assessment, instruction, inclusion, accessibility, assistive technology, secondary transition, and program evaluation
    • Oversee training and certification of staff in the use of restrictive procedures
    • Provide on-site coaching and support to enhance implementation of best practices in behavioral programming
  • Coordination of Service Delivery
    • Facilitate the implementation of best practices in behavior-related assessment, instruction, inclusion, accessibility, and program evaluation
    • Assist in conducting needs assessments to support various resource allocation and/or programming decisions
    • Secure and disseminate resource materials and equipment for behavior-related needs that can be shared across districts
    • Support the implementation of legal and ethical school discipline practices for students with disabilities, including manifestation determination meetings
    • Coordinate restrictive procedure quarterly review meetings and report data to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE)
    • Foster the implementation of special education guidelines specific to behavior services
    • Support teams in planning for transitions of students with behavior-related needs between buildings .(i.e., from elementary to secondary) and across settings (i.e., increasing services from setting 3 to setting 4)
    • Participate and/or facilitate SCRED internal meetings and workgroups as assigned
    • Participate in county collaborative committees to engage in interagency collaboration to support the behavior-related needs of students and families
    • Participate in the regional Community of Practice for Federal Setting IV programs
    • Provide work direction to the administrative assistant supporting the social behavior services area

Practicum Supervisor (K-12 ESL)

The Southeast Service Cooperative Teacher Licensure Program is designed to support candidates seeking an additional license in English as a Second Language (ESL) K-12. In 2022, the Southeast Service Cooperative was selected to receive $2.7 million in funding over five years through the National Professional Development (NPD) Program from the U.S. Department of Education Office of English Language Acquisition (Award #T365Z220119). The NPD program provides grants for eligible organizations to design and implement high-quality professional development activities that improve instruction for multilingual learners.

The primary goal of Project MOMENTUM (Micro-Credentialing Options for Minnesota Educators Navigating Transformative Understandings of Multilingualism) is to increase the number of licensed ESL K-12 educators in the state of Minnesota. In order to provide equitable access to high-quality professional learning opportunities, Project MOMENTUM has designed a series of additional licensure courses that will engage educators in learning aligned to PELSB English as a Second Language (ESL) K-12 Standards. We are seeking qualified teacher educators to support our licensure program as practicum supervisors.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise teacher candidates during their practicum experiences for additional licensure.
  • Conduct a minimum of two observations per candidate during their practicum experiences. Travel may be required for in-person observations.
  • Evaluate teaching effectiveness using established lesson planning and observation rubrics.
  • Provide constructive feedback to candidates using program and InTASC Standards to improve instructional knowledge, skills and dispositions
  • Maintain regular communication with candidates to discuss progress, address concerns, and support their professional development.
  • Act as a liaison between the candidate and the cooperating teacher, facilitating effective communication and collaboration to ensure alignment on expectations and support needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of observations, feedback, and assessments. Ensure that all documentation aligns with program requirements and is submitted in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with SSC staff to ensure candidates are meeting program requirements.
  • Attend required virtual meetings and training sessions, including professional development in coaching strategies for adult learners; and training on program requirements and evaluation procedures.
  • Maintaining appropriate technology (i.e. internet access, computer) for the duration of the practicum experience(s). Expenses related to technology will not be reimbursed by SSC.

Qualifications:

  • MN License in English as a Second Language (ESL) K-12 with at least three years of experience as a teacher of record – or – E-12 administrator with documented experience in teacher evaluation [REQUIRED]
  • Master’s degree in education or related field [REQUIRED]
  • Experience coaching adult learners and providing feedback to educators.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of current teaching methodologies and InTASC Standards
  • Proficiency in technology tools and applications related to education
  • Ability to pass a background check before in-person school visits

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and coaching to help candidates meet course objectives and program standards.
  • Review and provide robust feedback on assignments, application activities, and assessments.
  • Evaluate candidates’ performance on defined assessments using established rubrics.
  • Maintain regular and open communication with candidates.
  • Participate in course evaluations and contribute to program improvement efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and course participation.
  • Model professional behavior and promote reflective practice.
  • Attend required virtual meetings and training sessions, including professional development in coaching strategies for adult learners; and training on program requirements and evaluation procedures.
  • Maintaining appropriate technology (i.e. internet access, computer) for the duration of the course contract. Expenses related to technology will not be reimbursed by SSC.
  • A faculty evaluation will take place once a year, within one month of course completion.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in a related field of study and at least one of the following: Completed 18 graduate credits in ESL K-12
  • Completed a dissertation or published peer-reviewed research in ESL K-12
  • Completed a state-approved teacher preparation program in ESL K-12 and at least 3-5 years of experience as a teacher of record
  • Equivalent background and expertise of necessary pedagogical and content standard proficiency as demonstrated through previous work experiences and teaching experiences, educator evaluations, and/or national board certification
  • [For Multimodal Language and Literacy Only] Specialized knowledge in the research and teaching of reading (e.g., graduate coursework) and 3 years of teaching experience working with developing readers and teaching reading in the content areas
  • Experience with online teaching and learning platforms
  • Significant experience providing meaningful feedback though asynchronous methods
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Time Commitment: The time commitment for this role will include approximately 10 hours per week for 8 weeks, including required training. Specific dates for each course are listed below. Services are designed to improve social skills, assist with problem solving, provide behavior management skills, and understand how mental health issues impact students’ education. All the students have IEP’s.
