1.0 FTE Elementary Steam Specialist/Elementary Interventionist Location: John F. Kennedy Elementary School 1.The Elementary STEAM Specialist is a highly qualified teacher with significant skills in the area of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics instruction. The STEAM Specialist’s primary responsibility is to provide direct instruction on the principles of STEAM with first through fifth grade students. The STEAM Specialist will provide expanded learning opportunities for students to develop STEAM skill sets and focus on occupations that require a significant level of STEAM knowledge and skills. Using grade level Essential Learnings, the instructional focus is on integrating science, technology, engineering, art and math using an interdisciplinary approach. The focus for instruction is helping students apply the principles of engineering design using project-based learning. Collaboration between the STEAM Specialists and the classroom teachers is required to ensure consistent, high quality implementation across all elementary buildings. The STEAM Specialist will participate in local, state, and national professional development activities to continually increase competency in STEAM instruction. Planning will be done in a PLC structure in collaboration the classroom teachers under the direction of the principal.
