Band Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY: The middle school band director is a highly qualified teacher with significant skills in the areas of instrumental music. The band director’s primary responsibility is to provide direction instruction in band rehearsals and provide formal and informal instrumental lessons to students. Thorough planning and preparation, creating a positive, motivating classroom environment, providing high quality daily instruction, maintaining accurate records, communicating with other staff and families, and growing professionally are all essential aspects of the band director position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties: 1.Teach and conduct large group band rehearsals for 6th, 7th and 8th grade band students. 2.Schedule and coordinate small group band lessons. 3.Uses district Essential Learnings to guide instruction and assessment practices 4.Uses culturally responsive instruction throughout instruction 5.Schedule, plan, coordinate and conduct band concerts for all three grade levels. 6.Collaborate with the other band instructors (elementary, middle, and high school) to ensure consistent, high quality implementation across the district. 7.Participate in professional development activities to continually increase competency in instrumental band instruction. 8.Participate in a PLC structure in collaboration the other instrumental band instructors, music specialists and classroom teachers with the guidance of the principal and the Teaching and Learning Department 9.Coordinate, promote and schedule all lessons for students electing to participate in band. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Collaborate with elementary and middle school band instructors to prepare students for middle school band.
